Change an Apple-billed subscription

Here's what to know if your HBO Max subscription is billed through Apple.

To find who bills you for HBO Max, go to Manage an HBO Max subscription.

Note As of March 9, 2026, Apple billing is no longer available for new or returning subscribers. Any new subscription started on an Apple device is billed directly through us (WarnerMedia). This change doesn't impact existing Apple-billed subscribers.

Which plan do I have?
  1. In HBO Max, do one of the following:
    • Phone, tablet, or computer: Choose your profile and then Subscription.
    • TV device: Choose the Settings icon cog (lower left) and then Subscription.
      (Only Adult profiles can manage subscriptions.)
  2. Find your current plan. Explore HBO Max plans.

When is my next billing date?

Your subscription automatically renews on your next billing date. Here's how to find your next billing date:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. Choose your name and then Subscriptions.
  3. Choose your HBO Max subscription and find your next billing date.
How do I cancel?
Things to know
  • Your HBO Max subscription automatically renews until you cancel it.
  • Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel your subscription.
  • Cancel your subscription at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid further charges.

Here's how to cancel your Apple-billed subscription:

iPhone or iPad
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. Choose your name and then Subscriptions.
  3. Choose HBO Max in your list of subscriptions and then Cancel Subscription.
Apple TV
  1. On your Apple TV, choose Settings > Users & Accounts and then [account name] Subscriptions.
  2. Choose HBO Max and then Cancel Subscription.

Once canceled, you should get an email from Apple confirming your cancellation. You can continue streaming until your subscription expires at the end of your billing period.

You can resubscribe to HBO Max at any time.

  • Make sure your subscription is billed through Apple. To do this, go to Who's billing me?
  • On the Apple device where you started your subscription, follow the steps above to view your subscriptions.

How do I change my payment method?

Here's how to change your Apple Account payment method:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. Choose your name.
  3. Choose Payment & Shipping.
  4. Choose the payment method you want to change and then edit your info.

How do I change my plan?

You can change your plan or billing period of your Apple-billed subscription. Here's how:

iPhone or iPad
  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Choose your name, then Subscriptions.
  3. Choose your HBO Max subscription.
  4. Choose See All Plans, then follow the on-screen instructions to change your plan.

You should get an email from Apple confirming your plan change.

Web
  1. Sign in to your Apple account at account.apple.com.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to change your plan.

When will my plan change take effect?

The effective date depends on the change:

  • If you change to a lower-priced plan, your plan change will happen on your next billing date.
  • If you change to a higher-priced plan, your plan change happens immediately. Apple will refund you for the remaining days on your subscription plan and charge you for your new plan. Your next billing date will be adjusted.
My subscription is paused. What should I do?

If you're getting a 'Subscription Paused' message, it may be due to a payment error.

To resume your subscription, update your Apple payment method. Here's how:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. Choose your name.
  3. Choose Payment & Shipping.
  4. Choose the payment method you want to change or choose Add Payment Method to add a new payment.
