Change a Google-billed subscription
Here's what to know if your HBO Max subscription is billed through Google.
Note As of April 20, 2026, Google billing is no longer available for new or returning subscribers. Any new subscription started on an Android device is billed directly through us. This change doesn't impact existing Google-billed subscribers.

- In HBO Max, do one of the following:
- Phone, tablet, or computer: Choose your profile and then Subscription.
- TV device: Choose the Settings icon
and then Subscription.
(Only Adult profiles can manage subscriptions.)
- Here you'll find your current subscription plan.

Need help signing in? Go to Can't sign in.
Your subscription automatically renews on your next billing date. Here's how to find your next billing date:
- Open the Play Store on your Android phone or tablet or go to play.google.com.
- Choose your profile icon.
- Choose Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions.
- Find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions and take note of your next payment date.
- Your HBO Max subscription automatically renews until you cancel it.
- Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel your subscription.
- Cancel your subscription at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid further charges.
Here's how to cancel your Google-billed subscription:
- Open the Play Store app on the device where you started your subscription.
- Choose your profile icon.
- Choose Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions.
- Choose HBO Max and then Cancel subscription.
- Go to g.co/play/subscriptions.
- Make sure you're signed in to the Google account that has your HBO Max subscription. (To switch accounts, choose your profile icon and then Switch account).
- Find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions.
- Choose Manage and then Cancel subscription.
Once canceled, you should get an email from Google confirming your cancellation.
You can resubscribe to HBO Max at any time.

Try these things:
- Make sure you're signed in with the same Google account you used to purchase your subscription.
- Go to the Android device where you started your HBO Max subscription and view your subscriptions using the steps above.

Plan switching is no longer available via Google Play. Here’s how to manage your subscription:
- Go to play.google.com and choose your profile picture (top of screen).
- Choose Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Choose HBO Max in your list of subscriptions and then Cancel subscription. Can't find it? Make sure you're signed in with the same Google account you used to purchase your subscription. For help, go to Cancel Google-billed subscription.
- Once your subscription has expired, go to HBOMax.com and resubscribe.

If you're getting a 'Subscription Paused' message, it may be due to a payment error (or you may have paused your subscription).
