Sign in to HBO Max

Already have an HBO Max account? Great! Here's how to sign in.

Internet, mobile, or TV provider?
If you get HBO Max (or HBO) through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, you need to Connect your provider account before signing in to HBO Max.

Choose the device you're using:

Here's how to sign in to the HBO Max app:

  1. Open HBO Max and choose Sign In.
    Already signed in? Choose your profile (upper right) and then Sign Out.
  2. Enter your HBO Max account email and choose Continue.
    Don't have an HBO Max account yet? If you get HBO Max (or HBO) through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, choose create an HBO Max account and follow the Connect your provider steps.
  3. Choose the screen you get next:
Sign In

To finish signing in, do the following:

  1. Enter your HBO Max password and choose Sign In.
    Forgot password? Go to Reset your password.
  2. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
Can't Sign In

We didn't find an account with the email address you entered. Do one of the following:

  • Check your email address. If you have another email that could be associated with your HBO Max account, choose try signing in again and enter a different email address. Need help? Go to Find your account email.
  • Set up your HBO Max account. Choose the company you get HBO Max (or HBO) through, or type their name in the Search box. Need help? Follow the Connect your provider steps.
Enter the One-Time Code

To finish signing in, do the following:

  1. Check your inbox for an email sent by HBO Max (email subject: Time Sensitive: Your One-Time HBO Max Code). This email should arrive within a few minutes. Be sure to search all inbox folders (including Promotions, Junk, and Spam).
  2. Enter the 6-digit code from your email.
  3. Add or update an optional password for your account.
  4. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Need to switch accounts? To sign in to a different HBO Max account, choose your profile (upper right) and then Sign Out. Once signed out, choose Sign In.

Troubleshooting

'Email or password doesn't look right' message

If you get this message, try resetting your password. Here's how:

  1. On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot Password?
  2. Enter your HBO Max account email and choose Submit. Forgot your account email?
  3. Check your inbox for an HBO Max Password Reset email. This email should arrive within a few minutes.
  4. Open the most recent Password Reset email and choose Reset Your Password.
  5. Enter a new password and then choose Create Password.

Now, sign in with your account email and new password.

No password reset email?
If you don't get an HBO Max Password Reset email, go to Can't reset password.
'Can't verify your subscription' message

If you subscribed to HBO Max through an app store or HBOMax.com, go to Fix a subscription issue.

Subscribed through an internet, mobile, or TV provider? Make sure HBO Max is included with your internet, mobile, or TV package. To do this, sign in to your provider account on your provider's website and make sure HBO Max is included. For more info, go to Can't connect your provider.

'{ProviderName} needs you to sign in again' message

You may need to periodically sign in to your internet, mobile, or TV provider account that includes access to HBO Max. Here's how:

  1. When you're prompted to sign in again, choose Connect Your Provider.
  2. Choose or search for the company you get HBO Max (or HBO) through.
  3. On your provider's sign-in screen, enter your provider account info and sign in.

Welcome back message. What should I do?

Make sure your HBO Max account has an active HBO Max subscription. For help with this, go to Fix an HBO Max subscription issue.

'Your device time is out of sync' error

If you get a 'Your device time is out of sync' error on your phone or tablet, make sure the date and time are correct on your device. For help, go to Google's Set date & time article or Apple's iPhone: Change time or iPad: Change time article.

Can't solve the Captcha puzzle?

Sometimes we'll ask you to solve a puzzle to help keep your account secure. If you're having trouble with the Captcha puzzle, choose Restart to try again or Audio Challenge to access your account another way.

If this doesn't help, try signing in on a different device.

Use a Code

Sign in on your TV using a code. Here's how:

  1. Stay on the TV screen with the QR code and do one of the following:
    • Open your phone's camera app and point your camera at the QR code on your TV. Then, tap the link that appears on your phone (iPhone or Android QR steps).
      -or-
    • On your phone or computer, go to HBOMax.com/signin. Then, enter the 6-digit code from your TV.

  2. On the sign-in screen, enter your HBO Max account email and choose Continue.

TV code not working?

If the 6-digit code isn't working, here are some things to try:

  • Open a private or incognito browser window and then go to HBOMax.com/signin.
  • Try signing in another way (e.g. Use Email Address).
  • Try using a different supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari).
Use HBO Max Mobile App (on some devices)

Sign in on your TV using the HBO Max mobile app. Here's how:

  1. On the TV sign-in screen, choose Use HBO Max Mobile App (on the left).
    (This option is not available on all TV devices.)
  2. Open the HBO Max app on your phone or tablet.
  3. If you're not signed in, sign in, then close and reopen the HBO Max mobile app.
  4. Choose Allow in the HBO Max mobile app and you'll be signed in on your TV.
  5. On your TV, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
Didn't get Allow prompt?

If you didn't get a prompt in the HBO Max mobile app, try the following:

  • Make sure your mobile device and TV device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Close and reopen the HBO Max mobile app.
  • Try signing in another way (e.g. Use a Code).
Use Email Address

Sign in on your TV using your TV remote. Here's how:

  1. On the TV sign-in screen, choose Use Email Address (on the left).
  2. Enter your HBO Max account email and password, then choose Sign In. To open the on-screen keyboard, move the selection to Email Address and press the Select or OK button on your remote.
    Forgot password? Go to Reset your password.
  3. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Need to switch accounts? To sign in to a different HBO Max account, choose the Settings icon cog (lower left) (lower left) and then Sign Out. Once signed out, choose Sign In.
