How do I cancel HBO Max?

Things to know
  • Your HBO Max subscription will auto-renew until you cancel it.
  • Cancellation steps vary by provider and may require cancellation at least 1-2 days before your next billing cycle starts.
  • Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel your subscription.

HBO Max subscriptions are available through many providers and the cancellation steps and deadlines vary by billing provider. If you know who bills you, skip to Step 2.

Step 1: Find out who bills you

You can find out who bills you in Settings. Open HBO Max or go to HBOMax.com and then:

  • Phone or tablet: Tap your profile (upper right), then the Settings icon (cog, upper right), and then tap or scroll to Subscription.
  • Computer: Choose your profile (upper right), then choose Settings, and find Subscription.
  • TV device: Choose the Settings icon (cog, lower left), then choose Account.

Here you can see who your subscription is billed through. (Subscription information is only available with Adult profiles.)

You can also review your bank statement for an HBO Max subscription charge or ask your TV or mobile provider if they bill you for HBO Max.

Step 2: Follow the cancellation steps

Select who bills you for HBO Max and follow the cancellation steps:

App store

Cancellation steps vary by billing provider. You may need to cancel at least 1-2 days before your next billing cycle starts. Choose an app store:

Apple iTunes or App Store

Here's how to cancel your subscription in iOS Settings:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name.
  3. Tap Subscriptions (if prompted, log in with your Apple ID).
  4. Find and tap your HBO Max subscription. Can't find it? Make sure you're signed in with the correct Apple ID. For help, go to Apple's Can't find subscription to cancel article.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription.

You should get an email from Apple confirming your cancellation. You can continue streaming until your subscription expires at the end of your billing cycle.

Google Play

Here's how to cancel your subscription:

  1. On the Android phone or tablet, open the Play Store
    app. To cancel on your computer, go to Google's Cancel subscription on Google Play article.
  2. At the top right, tap your profile icon.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions.
  4. Tap HBO Max in your list of subscriptions, and then Cancel subscription.

You should get an email from Google Play confirming your cancellation. You can continue streaming until your subscription expires at the end of your billing cycle.

Pause payments
Instead of canceling, you can pause your subscription for up to 3 months. To do this, tap Pause Payments and then set the time period to pause payments. You can continue streaming until your subscription is paused at the end of your billing cycle.
Samsung TV

Here's how to cancel your subscription on the web:

  1. Go to samsungcheckout.com and sign in to your Samsung account.
  2. From the Purchase History menu, choose Subscriptions.
  3. Find your HBO Max subscription and then choose Unsubscribe.

Once canceled, you should get an email from Samsung confirming your cancellation. You can continue to stream until your subscription expires at the end of your billing cycle.

TV or mobile provider

Sign in to your provider's website, go to their Help Center, or contact them.

You may need to cancel at least 1-2 days before your next billing cycle starts.

HBO Nordic AB (HBOMax.com)

If you're billed through us (HBO Nordic AB), here's how to cancel:

Phone or tablet
  1. Open HBO Max and then tap your profile (upper right). Need sign in help?
  2. Tap the Settings icon (cog, upper right) and then tap or scroll to Subscription.
  3. Tap Manage Subscription.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription.
  5. Confirm your cancellation and take note of your expiration date.

Once canceled, you'll get an email from us confirming your cancellation. You can continue to stream until your subscription expires at the end of your billing cycle.

Computer
  1. Go to HBOMax.com and sign in (if needed). Need sign in help?
  2. Choose your profile (upper right), then choose Settings, and find Subscription.
  3. Choose Manage Subscription.
  4. Choose Cancel Subscription.
  5. Confirm your cancellation and take note of your expiration date.

Once canceled, you'll get an email from us confirming your cancellation. You can continue to stream until your subscription expires at the end of your billing cycle.

Yearly subscriptions
If you switch from yearly to monthly billing, the change won't take effect until your next billing date (at the end of your yearly billing period). If you’d like to make changes during your yearly billing period, please contact us.
