Can I get a refund?

Refund policies vary by billing provider. Your billing provider is who you pay for your HBO Max subscription.

First, find out who your HBO Max subscription is billed through:

  1. In HBO Max, do one of the following:
    • Phone, tablet, or computer: Choose your profile and then Subscription.
    • TV device: Choose the Settings icon cog and then Subscription.
(Only Adult profiles can manage subscriptions.)
  2. Here you'll find who your subscription is billed through:
    • Amazon Appstore (UK only): Contact Amazon and ask about their return policy.
    • Roku: Go to Roku's refund policy article.
    • Samsung (in select countries): Contact us about any refund requests.
    • Discovery Communications Benelux B.V.: Subscriptions for monthly plans include a minimum commitment of a month. When you complete the transaction for your subscription, you agree that, once your new subscription begins, you can access your HBO Max subscription immediately and acknowledge that you lose any applicable statutory right to a refund if you cancel in the cooling off period. If there's an unexpected charge or you have any billing concerns, please contact us for help.
    • Saver plan?

If you cancel during your Saver plan subscription period, all monthly payments will remain payable for the remainder of the subscription. Once you cancel, you'll continue to have access to HBO Max until your subscription expires at the end of your 12-month billing period.

    • Other provider: Contact your billing provider and ask about their refund policy.

To find your billing provider, you can also review your bank statements or ask your internet, mobile, or TV provider if they bill you for HBO Max.

What if the charge isn't what I expected?

If your charge looks different to what you expected, here are a few possible reasons:

  • You may have a different plan or billing period to what you thought. Which plan do I have?
  • Your promotional or discounted period may have ended and you were charged the then-current subscription rate.
  • Where applicable, taxes are included in your subscription charge for the country where you started your subscription.

If none of these reasons apply and your subscription is billed through us (Discovery Communications Benelux B.V.), please contact us for help (instead of your payment service). If you're billed through another company, go to Unexpected subscription charge or contact them for help.
