Ads on HBO Max

If you subscribe to an HBO Max subscription plan with ads, ads will play before and during on-demand shows and films. When an ad break starts, the number of ads in the ad break appears on screen. There's also a timer that counts down to the end of the ad. Ad breaks are marked on the progress bar when you pause playback.

Live sports and live channels have ads regardless of your plan.

Besides this, all plans may include content with sponsorship and product placement, which will be identified in accordance with applicable legislation, as well as programme trailers.

Stream without ads

To stream on-demand shows and films without ads, change your plan to the Standard or Premium plan. To skip promotional trailers that play before a show or film, choose the Skip button. Live sports and live channels have ads regardless of your plan.

Why am I seeing ads?

Ads play during live sports and on live channels. You may also see ads in on-demand programming if you're subscribed to an HBO Max plan with ads.

First, check which subscription plan you have:

In HBO Max, do one of the following:
- Phone, tablet, or computer: Choose your profile and then Subscription.
- TV device: Choose the Settings icon and then Subscription.
  (Only Adult profiles can manage subscriptions.)

If you have the Basic with Ads or Standard with Ads plan, you can change your plan to Standard or Premium to watch shows and films on demand without ads. Live sports and live channels have ads regardless of your plan.

Some programme trailers play before shows and films. These trailers let you know about other programmes on HBO Max and can be skipped. To skip programme trailers, choose the Skip button.

Can I fast forward or skip ads?

No, fast forward and skip aren't available when an ad is playing. If you'd like to watch on-demand shows and films without ads, change your plan to the Standard or Premium plan. Live sports and live channels have ads regardless of your plan.

You can pause an ad break, but you can't skip ads.

To skip programme trailers that play before a show or film, choose the Skip button.

Why am I seeing the same ad repeatedly?

You may see a specific brand more often while watching a series, a long film, or a similar genre (like comedy). When you're watching sponsored content, you'll see a sponsorship notification. Content with sponsorship may be included in all plans.

Why am I seeing brands in a show or film?

When you're watching sponsored content or content with product placement, you'll see a sponsorship or product placement notification. Content with sponsorship and product placement may be included in all plans.
