Sign in with account email and password

There are two ways to sign in depending on how you get HBO Max.

Ways to sign in

  1. Sign in through a TV, internet, or mobile provider
  2. Sign in with your account email and password (see below)

Which device are you using?

Here's how to sign in on your phone or tablet:

  1. Open the HBO Max app and then tap the Profile icon (or try to play a show or movie).
  2. Tap the Sign in to your account link.
    If you're already signed in, tap the Settings icon (upper-left), then scroll down and choose Sign Out.
  3. Enter the email and password for your HBO Max or HBO NOW account. Need help? See Forgot email or Forgot password.
    TV, Internet, or Wireless Package?
    If you get HBO Max with your TV, internet, or wireless package, see Sign in through a provider.
  4. Choose Sign In. If you have trouble signing in, please see Can't sign in.
  5. Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.
HBO (HBO NOW) Subscribers
  • Eligible HBO (HBO NOW) subscribers must agree to the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy for the HBO Max platform. If you choose Access All of HBO Max, then you can stream the entire HBO Max catalog. Or, if you choose Access HBO Only, then you can watch all of HBO on the HBO Max platform.
  • Your previous settings (such as My List, Continue Watching, and parental controls) are not be available in HBO Max.

Here's how to sign in at HBOMax.com:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com on your computer and choose Sign In (upper-right). If you're already signed in, choose your profile icon and then choose Sign Out.
  2. Enter the email and password for your HBO Max or HBO NOW account. Need help? See Forgot email or Forgot password.
    TV, Internet, or Wireless Package?
    If you get HBO Max with your TV, internet, or wireless package, see Sign in through a provider.
  3. Choose Sign In. If you have trouble signing in, please see Can't sign in.
  4. Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.
HBO (HBO NOW) Subscribers

Which TV are you using?

Apple TV

Here's how to sign in using your account email and password:

  1. Open HBO Max on your Apple TV and choose Sign In (or try to play a show or movie).
    If you're already signed in, choose your profile icon (circle with a letter in the upper-left), then scroll right and choose Sign Out.
  2. Enter the email and password for your HBO Max or HBO NOW account. Need help? See Forgot email or Forgot password.
    TV, Internet, or Wireless Package?

  3. Choose Sign In. If you have trouble signing in, please see Can't sign in.

Roku
  1. Open HBO Max on your Roku and choose Sign In (or try to play a show or movie).
    • Sign in Not Available?  You may already be signed in. To see which account you're signed in with, choose your profile icon (circle with a letter in the upper-left), then scroll right and choose Sign Out. Here you can see your account email address. If you want to switch to another account, choose the Sign Out button and then sign in to your other account.
  2. If you get a subscription found message, see the section below.
  3. To open the keyboard, press the OK button on your remote.
  4. Enter the email and password for your HBO Max or HBO NOW account. Need help? See Forgot email or Forgot password.
    TV, Internet, or Wireless Package?
    If you get HBO Max with your TV, internet, or wireless package, see Sign in through a provider.
  5. Choose Sign In. If you have trouble signing in, please see Can't sign in.

We found your subscription in Roku Pay message

If you get this message do one of the following:

  • Sign In: We found your subscription billed through Roku and you just need to sign in. Choose Sign In and enter your account email and password. If you're not sure which email or password to enter, see Forgot email or Forgot password.
  • Create Account: We found your subscription billed through Roku, but your account is incomplete. Choose Create Account to finish creating your account. Once your account is complete, you can sign in on other devices.

Other TV device

(Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, PlayStation, Samsung TV, Xbox, Xfinity TV Box)

To sign in on your TV, you'll need to have your phone or a computer handy. Here's how to sign in:

  1. Open HBO Max on your TV and choose Sign In (or try to play a show or movie).
    If you're already signed in, choose your profile icon (circle with a letter in the upper-left), then scroll right and choose Sign Out.
  2. You should see a 6 character code. Stay on this screen while you grab your phone or a computer.
  3. Open a web browser on your phone or a computer and type hbomax.com/tvsignin in the address bar (this redirects to https://activate.hbomax.com). This should take you to an Enter Code screen.
  4. Enter the code that appears on your TV, and then choose Next. Code not working?
  5. Enter the email and password for your HBO Max or HBO NOW account. Need help? See Forgot email or Forgot password.
    TV, Internet, or Wireless Package?
    If you get HBO Max with your TV, internet, or wireless package, see Sign in through a provider.
  6. Choose Sign In. If you have trouble signing in, please see Can't sign in.
  7. Once your TV updates, you're ready to stream (this may take 60 seconds).
HBO (HBO NOW) Subscribers
  • Eligible HBO (HBO NOW) subscribers must agree to the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy for the HBO Max platform. If you choose Access All of HBO Max, then you can stream the entire HBO Max catalog. Or, if you choose Access HBO Only, then you can watch all of HBO on the HBO Max platform.

Code not working?

Where do I enter the code?

If the Enter Code page doesn't appear, try the following:

  • Choose this link: https://activate.HBOMax.com (or type https://activate.hbomax.com in your browser's address bar). This should take you to an Enter Code screen where you can enter the code from your TV.

Code doesn't work or is invalid

Try the following:

  1. Make sure you're on the correct page in Step 3 above (https://activate.hbomax.com). Choose this link: https://activate.HBOMax.com and then enter the code from your TV.
  2. Try using a different supported browser: Chrome, FireFox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.
  3. Get a new code. To do this, go back and choose Sign In again on your TV.

If you're signing in using your phone, try the following:

Step 1: Switch to a computer

  • In Step 3 above, try using a computer (instead of your phone). To do this, open this link: https://activate.HBOMax.com on your computer and then enter the code from your TV.

Step 2: Clear your browser data

Clear your browser data and then try signing in again using your phone. Here's how:

  • iPhone: On your iOS device, go to Settings > Safari, then scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data. To learn more, go to Clear Safari.
  • Android phone: Try clearing your Chrome browsing data on your Android device. To find out how to do this, see Clear cache & cookies.
