Here are some frequently asked questions and answers:
Paying for HBO Max
HBO Max is available from many providers and prices vary by provider and subscription plan.
Depending on your provider, you can choose from two subscription plans:
- With Ads - $9.99/month or $99.99/year (16% savings)
- Ad-Free - $15.99/month or $149.99/year (over 20% savings)
If you sign up through us at HBOMax.com, you can use any of the following: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and PayPal. Please note that your credit or debit card needs to be U.S. issued and support automatic recurring payments.
If you subscribe through...
- TV or mobile provider: Check with your provider to find out which payment methods are accepted.
- App store: Check with your app store (Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Roku, or Samsung TV) to find out which payment methods are accepted.
To find out how to change your payment method, see Change payment.
HBO Max is currently not offering student discount subscriptions. HBO Max is available through a number of colleges and universities. For a list of colleges, see sign in through a college or university.
If you already have an HBO NOW student subscription, you can sign in to HBO Max using your HBO NOW email and password. You will continue to be billed $9.99/month (plus applicable taxes) as long as you continue to be a qualifying student.
No, at this time we don't have HBO Max gift cards. If you have an HBO NOW gift card, see Redeem an HBO NOW gift card.

Billing support
If you can't add or update your payment method, see Can't change payment method.
Depending on your provider, you can choose from two subscription plans:
- With Ads - $9.99/month or $99.99/year (16% savings)
- Ad-Free - $15.99/month or $149.99/year (over 20% savings)
If your charge looks different than you expected, here are a few possible reasons:
- Applicable taxes are added to your subscription charge and they're based on your billing address ZIP code.
- You may have a different plan or billing period than you thought. See Which plan do I have?
- Your promotional or discounted period may have ended and you were charged the standard subscription rate (see the plan prices above).
If none of these reasons apply and you're billed through us (WarnerMedia), contact us. If you're billed through another company, contact them for help.
If you didn't sign up for HBO Max, find the HBO Max charge on your bank statement.
If you were charged by:
- An app store (Amazon, Apple, Google, Roku, or Samsung): Cancel the HBO Max subscription in the app store or contact their customer support for help.
- help.HBOMax.com: Take note of the date and charge amount. Make sure you have your card information and billing address ZIP Code, then contact us for help.
