Change a WarnerMedia-billed subscription

HBO Max subscriptions are available through many providers and how you change your subscription varies by billing provider. Your billing provider is who you signed up through or who bills you for HBO Max.

First, find who your subscription is billed through:

Who's billing me?
  1. Open the HBO Max app or sign in at HBOMax.com on your computer. Can't sign in?
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Phone or tablet: Tap your profile (upper right), the Settings icon (cog, upper right), and then tap or scroll to Subscription.
    • TV device: Choose the Settings icon (cog, lower left) and then choose Account.
    • Computer: Choose your profile (upper right), then choose Settings, and find Subscription.
(Subscription information is only available with Adult profiles.)
  3. Here you'll find who your subscription is billed through:
    • Warner Media Direct, LLC: See info below.
    • Another provider: Find your billing provider on this page.

You can also review your bank statement for an HBO Max subscription charge. If your subscription charge lists help.HBOMax.com, then your subscription is likely billed through us (WarnerMedia).

WarnerMedia billing Q&A

If you're billed through Warner Media Direct, LLC, here are some common questions and answers:

When is my next billing date?

Your subscription automatically renews on your billing date. Your billing date is the day you started your HBO Max subscription. If you switch to yearly billing or the Ad-Free plan, your billing date will change to when you switched plans.

To find your next billing date:

  1. Open HBO Max or sign in at HBOMax.com on your computer.
  3. Find the date after Next Billing Date.

If you'd like to switch from monthly to yearly billing (a 16% savings), see How do I change my plan? below.

No Billing Date?
Next Billing Date only appears if your subscription is billed through WarnerMedia. If you're billed through another provider, find your provider on this page.
How do I cancel?

Your subscription automatically renews each month or year until you cancel. To find out when your subscription will renew, go to When is my next billing date?

Important
To avoid being charged for your next billing period, cancel your subscription at least 24 hours before your next billing date. Uninstalling the HBO Max app will not cancel your subscription. Instead, cancel your subscription using the steps below.

Things to Know
  • Promotional Offers: If you switch to yearly billing or an Ad-Free plan during a promotional period, you'll lose the benefit of your promotional offer.
  • Downloads: If you switch to the With Ads plan, you won't be able to play titles that you've downloaded.
What if the charge isn't what I expected?

If your charge looks different than you expected, here are a few possible reasons:

  • Applicable taxes are added to your subscription charge and they're based on your billing address ZIP code.
  • You may have a different plan or billing period than you thought. See Which plan do I have?
  • Your promotional or discounted period may have ended and you were charged the standard subscription rate.

If none of these reasons apply and you're billed through us (WarnerMedia), please contact us for help. If you're billed through another company, contact them for help.
