Sign in to HBO Max account

If you already have an HBO Max account, use these steps to sign in.

Sign in with provider
If this is your first time signing in and you get HBO Max through a TV, internet, or wireless provider, see Sign in with a provider.

Choose the device you're using:

Here's how to sign in on your phone or tablet:

  1. Open HBO Max and then tap the Profile icon (person, upper right).
    If you're already signed in, tap your profile (upper right), the Settings icon (cog, upper right), and then choose Sign Out.
  2. Tap Sign in to your account.
  3. Enter your account email and password and then choose Sign in. Can't sign in?
    TV, internet, or wireless package?
    If this is your first time signing in and you get HBO Max through a TV, internet, or wireless provider, see Sign in with a provider.
  4. Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.

Troubleshooting

Email address or password is incorrect message

Try resetting your password. Here's how:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com/forgot-password.
  2. Enter your account email and then choose Submit.
  3. Check your inbox for a 'Reset Your HBO Max Password' email sent by HBO Max. This email should arrive within a few minutes.
    No reset password email?
    This means the email you entered isn't in use by an HBO Max account. Do you have another email address? Repeat these steps for each of your email addresses. Need help? See Can't reset password
  4. Open the 'Reset Your HBO Max Password' email and choose Reset Password.
  5. Enter a new password and then choose Save Password.

Now sign in to HBO Max using your account email and new password.

Here's how to sign in at HBOMax.com:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com on your computer and choose Sign In (upper right).
    If you're already signed in, choose your profile (upper right) and then choose Sign Out.
  2. Enter your account email and password and then choose Sign In. Can't sign in?

  3. Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.

Troubleshooting

Email address or password is incorrect message

Here's how to sign in on your TV:

Android TV, Apple TV, or PlayStation
  1. Open HBO Max on your TV and then choose the Profile icon (person, upper left). If you're already signed in, see How do I sign out?
  2. Choose Sign In.
  3. Enter your account email and password and choose Sign In. Can't sign in?

    PlayStation: To open the keyboard, press the X button on your controller.
    TV, internet, or wireless package?
    If this is your first time signing in and you get HBO Max through a TV, internet, or wireless provider, see Sign in with a provider.
  4. Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.
Roku
  1. Open HBO Max on your TV and then choose the Profile icon (person, upper left). If you're already signed in, see How do I sign out?
  2. Choose Sign In.
    If you get a subscription found message, see the section below.
  3. Press the OK button on your Roku remote to open the keyboard.
  4. Enter your account email and password and choose Sign In. Can't sign in?

    If this is your first time signing in and you get HBO Max through a TV, internet, or wireless provider, see Sign in with a provider.
  5. Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.

We found your subscription in Roku Pay message

If you get this message do one of the following:

  • Sign In: Choose Sign In and enter your account email and password. Need help? See Can't sign in.
  • Create Account: Choose Create Account and finish creating your account. Once your account is complete, you can sign in on other devices.
Other TV device

Claro Box TV, LG Smart TV, Samsung TV, Totalplay Decoder, or Xbox

On your TV device:

  1. Open HBO Max on your TV and then choose the Profile icon (person, upper left). If you're already signed in, see How do I sign out?
  2. Choose Sign In. Stay on the screen with the 6-character code. You'll use this code to finish signing in on your phone or computer.
  3. Now, on your phone or computer:

  4. Open a web browser and go to: activate.hbomax.com.
    -or-
    Xbox console: You can use your phone's camera to scan the QR code on your TV.
  5. Enter the 6-character code from your TV and choose Next. Code not working?
  6. TV, internet, or wireless package?

  7. Enter your account email and password and then choose Sign In. Need help? See Can't sign in.

Go back to your TV, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Troubleshooting

Code not working?

Here are some things to try:

  • Enter the code from your TV at activate.hbomax.com on your computer instead of your phone (or vice versa).
  • Try using a different web browser: Chrome, FireFox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.
  • Try clearing your browser data. Here's how:
    • iPhone or iPad: On your iOS device, go to Settings > Safari, then scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data. To learn more, go to Clear Safari.
    • Android phone: Try clearing your Chrome browsing data on your Android device. To find out how to do this, see Clear cache & cookies.
Email address or password is incorrect message

Try signing in on another supported device (phone, tablet, or computer). If you can't sign in on another device, reset your password. Here's how:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com/forgot-password.
  2. Enter your account email and then choose Submit.
  3. Check your inbox for a 'Reset Your HBO Max Password' email sent by HBO Max. This email should arrive within a few minutes.
    No reset password email?
    This means the email you entered isn't in use by an HBO Max account. Do you have another email address? Repeat these steps for each of your email addresses. Need help? See Can't reset password
  4. Open the 'Reset Your HBO Max Password' email and choose Reset Password.
  5. Enter a new password and then choose Save Password.

Now sign in to HBO Max using your account email and new password.

HBO GO Settings
  • Your HBO GO settings, such as your Watchlist and recently watched list, will not be available in HBO Max.
