Sign in to HBO Max

Already have an HBO Max account? Great! Here's how to sign in.

New subscription?
If you get HBO Max through an internet, mobile or TV provider, you need to Activate your HBO Max subscription before you can start streaming HBO Max.

Choose the device you're using:

Here's how to sign in to the HBO Max app:

  1. Open HBO Max and choose Sign In.
    Already signed in? Choose your profile (upper right) and then Sign Out.
  2. Enter your HBO Max account email and password, then choose Sign In.
    Forgot password? Go to Reset your password.
  3. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Note Your HBO Max profiles, watch history, and settings are available in enhanced HBO Max.

Need to switch accounts? To sign in to a different HBO Max account, choose your profile (upper right) and then Sign Out. Once signed out, choose Sign In.

Troubleshooting

'Email or password doesn't look right' message

If you get this message, try resetting your password. Here's how:

  1. On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot Password?
  2. Enter your HBO Max account email and choose Submit. Forgot your account email?
  3. Check your inbox for an HBO Max Password Reset email. This email should arrive within a few minutes.
  4. Open the most recent Password Reset email and choose Reset Your Password.
  5. Enter a new password and then choose Create Password.

Now, sign in with your account email and new password.

No password reset email?
If you don't get an HBO Max Password Reset email, go to Can't reset password.
'Can't verify your subscription' message

If you get this message, check the status of your Max subscription. For help with this, go to Fix a subscription issue.

Welcome back message. What should I do?

If you have an active HBO Max subscription and get a Welcome back message, go to Fix an HBO Max subscription issue.

'Your device time is out of sync' error

If you get a 'Your device time is out of sync' error on your phone or tablet, make sure the date and time are correct on your device. For help, go to Google’s Set date & time article or Apple’s iPhone: Change time or iPad: Change time article.

Can't solve the Captcha puzzle?

Sometimes we'll ask you to solve a puzzle to help keep your account secure. If you're having trouble with the Captcha puzzle challenge, choose Restart to start the challenge over.

You can also choose Audio Challenge to access your account another way.

Scan QR Code

Scan the QR code on your TV to sign in. Here's how:

  1. Stay on the TV screen with the QR code while you grab your phone or computer.
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. Now, on your phone or computer:

  4. Enter your HBO Max account email and password, and then choose Sign In.
    Forgot password? Go to Reset your password.
  5. On your TV, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Code not working?

If the 6-character code isn't working, here are some things to try:

  • Open a private or incognito browser window and then go to HBO.Max.com/signin.
  • Try signing in another way (e.g. choose Use Your Remote).
  • Try using a different supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari).
  • Enter the code from your TV at HBO.Max.com/signin on your computer instead of your phone (or vice versa).
Link With Wi-Fi (on some devices)

Sign in on your TV using the HBO Max app on your phone or tablet. Here's how:

  1. On your phone or tablet, open the HBO Max app and sign in (if needed). Keep the HBO Max app open and active.
  2. Then, on your TV device:

  3. On the Sign In screen, choose Link With Wi-Fi (on the left).
    (This option is not available on all TV devices.)
  4. Stay on the Link With Wi-Fi screen while you grab your phone or tablet.
  5. Now, on your phone or tablet:

  6. Go back to HBO Max and choose Allow when asked if your TV can sign in to your HBO Max account.
    You'll be signed in on your TV.
  7. On your TV, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
No sign-in prompt?
  • Make sure you're signed in to HBO Max on your mobile device.
  • Make sure your mobile device and TV device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Close and reopen HBO Max on your mobile device.
  • Try signing in another way: Scan QR Code or Use Your Remote.
Use Your Remote

Sign in on your TV using your TV remote. Here's how:

  1. On the Sign In screen, choose Use Your Remote (on the left).
  2. Enter your HBO Max account email and password, and then choose Sign In. Forgot password? Go to Reset your password.
    If you have trouble entering your info on your TV, press the Select or OK button on your remote to open the on-screen keyboard.
  3. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
