Change an Amazon-billed subscription

If you signed up using the HBO Max app on an Amazon Fire TV or Fire tablet, then your subscription is billed through the Amazon Appstore.

First, confirm that your subscription is Amazon-billed:

Find my billing provider
  1. Open HBO Max or sign in to HBOMax.com on your computer. Can't sign in?
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Phone or tablet: Tap the Profile icon (bottom edge on phones, left edge on tablets) and then tap the Settings icon (upper left). Choose Subscription.
    • PlayStation or Roku: Choose the Settings icon (lower left) and then choose Account.
    • Other TV device: Choose your profile (upper left) and then choose Account.
    • Computer: Choose your profile (upper right) and then choose Subscription.
      Subscription information is only available with Adult profiles.
  3. Here you can see who your subscription is billed through:
    • Amazon Appstore: See info below.
    • Another provider: Find your billing provider on this page.

How do I cancel?

If you're billed through the Amazon Appstore, you can cancel your subscription via your Amazon account page. Here's how:

  1. Go to Appstore Subscriptions and sign in to your Amazon account.
  2. Find HBO Max in the Your Subscriptions section and turn off auto-renewal.

When will my subscription renew?

If you're billed through the Amazon Appstore, you can see your subscription auto-renewal date on your Amazon account page. Here's how:

  1. Go to Appstore Subscriptions and sign in to your Amazon account.
  2. Find HBO Max in the Your Subscriptions section and check the auto-renewal date.

How do I change my payment method?

If you're billed through the Amazon Appstore, here's how to change your payment method:

  1. Go to Amazon Wallet and sign in to your Amazon account.
  2. Here you can change your payment method for your Amazon account.

What is my current plan?

To find out which subscription plan you have, do the following:

How do I change plans?

Depending on when you started your subscription, you can switch plans on your Amazon Fire TV device.

Amazon Fire TV

Here's how to switch your plan:

  1. Open HBO Max on your Amazon Fire TV device.
  2. Choose your profile (upper left) and then choose Account.
  3. Choose Switch Plans.
    If Switch Plans isn't available, you'll need to turn off auto-renewal, wait for your subscription to expire, then resubscribe to HBO Max on your Amazon Fire device. When you resubscribe you can choose the plan and billing period that you'd like. If you need help with this, contact us.
  4. Choose the subscription plan you'd like: With Ads or Ad-Free.
  5. Choose a billing period: Monthly or Yearly.
  6. Choose Select Plan and then confirm your new plan.
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your plan change through Amazon.

Your subscription is updated to your new plan or billing period. You should get an email from Amazon confirming your plan change.

Amazon Fire tablet

Here's how to switch your plan:

  1. Open HBO Max on your Amazon Fire tablet, then tap the Profile icon (bottom edge on phones, left edge on tablets). Can't sign in?
  2. Tap the Settings icon (upper-left) and then Subscription.
  3. Tap Switch Plans.
  4. Choose the subscription plan you'd like: With Ads or Ad-Free
  5. Choose a billing period: Monthly or Yearly.
  6. Tap Select Plan and then confirm your new plan.
  7. Complete your subscription through the Amazon Appstore.

Your subscription is updated to your new plan. You should get an email from Amazon confirming your plan change.

When will this change take effect?

Plan Change

  1. Switch to With Ads: This change takes effect on your next billing date. You can continue streaming without ads until your next billing date.
  2. Switch to Ad-Free: This change happens immediately—you can stream everything without ads. Amazon will refund you for the remaining days in your With Ads billing period and charge you for the Ad-Free plan (plus applicable taxes). Your next billing date will be adjusted.

Billing Period Change

  1. Switch to Monthly billing: This change takes effect on your next billing date (at the end of your yearly billing period).
  2. Switch to Yearly billing: This change is effective immediately. Amazon will refund you for the remaining days in your monthly subscription period and charge you the yearly price (plus applicable taxes). Your next billing date will be in 1 year.
Downloads
If you switch to the With Ads plan, you won't be able to play titles that you've downloaded.
