Sign in with DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM or U-Verse

HBO Max is available through the following video services: 

  • DIRECTV STREAM
  • DIRECTV
  • AT&T U-Verse TV

Use the steps below to sign in to HBO Max through one of these video services.

Previously subscribed to AT&T WatchTV? You can sign in to HBO Max using your AT&T ID and password. See Sign in with AT&T wireless account.

AT&T Wireless or Internet Plan?
If HBO Max is included with your AT&T wireless or internet plan, see Sign in through AT&T wireless or internet account.

Choose your TV service:

DIRECTV STREAM or U-Verse

Here's how you sign in on your phone or tablet:

  1. Open HBO Max, tap the Profile icon (person, upper right), and then tap Sign in to your account.
  2. If you're already signed in, tap your profile (upper right), the Settings icon Settings icon (upper left), and then scroll down and choose Sign Out.
  3. Tap Sign in with a Provider.
    iPhone or iPad
    • DIRECTV STREAM or U-verse: When asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription, tap Allow. If you're signed in with your TV provider in iOS Settings, HBO Max will sign you in using this info. Otherwise, choose DIRECTV STREAM or U-verse from the list of TV providers and sign in to your account.
  4. Choose AT&T as your provider.
  5. Enter your AT&T user ID and password (for the AT&T account that includes access to HBO Max), and then choose Sign In. If you can't sign in to your AT&T account, tap Forgot user ID? or Forgot password?

    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    • Make sure your AT&T account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to att.com/myatt or the myAT&T app, then go to your account page, and find the HBO Max tile.
    • iOS device: Try removing your TV provider in iOS Settings. To do this, go to Settings > TV Provider, then scroll down and choose Remove TV Provider. Then, open HBO Max and try signing in again.
    • If you still can't sign in, see att.com/hbomaxhelp.
  6. First time signing in? You'll see 'Create Your HBO Max Account.'
    • New to HBO Max? Edit your name and email as you'd like and then choose Create Account.
    • Already have an HBO Max account? To keep your existing profiles and watch history, enter your existing HBO Max email address and then choose Create Account. Then, on the Account Found screen choose Verify Email Address. If you need help with this, see Account Found: Link account.
  7. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
DIRECTV

Here's how you sign in on your phone or tablet:

  1. Open HBO Max, tap the Profile icon (person, upper right), and then tap Sign in to your account.
  2. If you're already signed in, tap your profile (upper right), the Settings icon Settings icon (upper left), and then scroll down and choose Sign Out.
  3. Tap Sign in with a Provider.
    iPhone or iPad
    If prompted, tap Allow when asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription. If you're signed in through DIRECTV in iOS Settings, HBO Max will use your DIRECTV info to sign you in. Otherwise, choose DIRECTV and sign in to your account.
  4. Choose DIRECTV from the list of providers. Next, you'll see the AT&T sign-in page (DIRECTV is part of the AT&T family).
    DIRECTV Puerto Rico Subscribers: Scroll down and choose DIRECTV Puerto Rico. Then, enter your account email and password and tap Login.
  5. Select the User ID for your account that includes HBO Max, enter your password, and choose Sign In. If you don't see your account with HBO Max, choose Add user ID. Can't sign in? See Sign-in help.

    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    • Make sure your account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to directv.com and make sure your TV package includes HBO.
    • iOS device: Try removing your TV provider in iOS Settings. To do this, go to Settings > TV Provider and then scroll down and choose Remove TV Provider. Then, open HBO Max and try signing in again.
  6. First time signing in? You'll see 'Create Your HBO Max Account.'
    • New to HBO Max? Edit your name and email as you'd like and then choose Create Account.
    • Already have an HBO Max account? To keep your existing profiles and watch history, enter your existing HBO Max email address and then choose Create Account. Then, on the Account Found screen choose Verify Email Address. If you need help with this, see Account Found: Link account.
  7. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

  1. Go to HBOMax.com on your computer and choose Sign In (upper right).
    If you're already signed in, choose your profile (upper right) and then choose Sign Out.
  2. Choose Sign in with a Provider.
  3. Choose AT&T from the list of providers.
  4. Select the User ID for your AT&T account that includes HBO Max, enter your password, and choose Sign In. If you don't see your account with HBO Max, choose Add user ID. If you can't sign in to your AT&T account, tap Forgot user ID? or Forgot password?

    • Make sure your AT&T account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to att.com/myatt or the myAT&T app, then go to your account page, and find the HBO Max tile.
    • You can also sign in to your video service (e.g. sign in at stream.directv.com for DIRECTV STREAM) and make sure HBO is included with your TV package.

    • New to HBO Max? Edit your name and email as you'd like and then choose Create Account.

  6. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
DIRECTV

Here's how to sign in on your computer:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com on your computer and choose Sign In (upper right).
    If you're already signed in, choose your profile (upper right) and then choose Sign Out.
  2. Choose Sign in with a Provider.
  3. Choose DIRECTV from the list of providers. Next, you'll see the AT&T sign-in page (DIRECTV is part of the AT&T family).
    DIRECTV Puerto Rico Subscribers: Choose View All Providers, then select DIRECTV Puerto Rico, and sign in with your account email and password.
  4. Select the User ID for your account that includes HBO Max, enter your password, and choose Sign In. If you don't see your account with HBO Max, choose Add user ID. Can't sign in? See Sign-in help.

    Make sure your account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to directv.com and make sure your TV package includes HBO.

Here's how to sign in on your TV:

Apple TV
  1. Open HBO Max and then choose the Profile icon (person, upper left).
  2. Choose Sign In. If you're already signed in, see How do I sign out?
  3. Choose Sign in with a Provider.
  4. Choose one of the following:
    • Allow: Choose Allow if you want HBO Max to use your DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM, or U-verse information from Apple TV Settings. If you haven't signed in to your TV provider account in Apple TV Settings, choose your TV provider (or More Providers at the bottom of the screen). If you see a screen with a 6-character code, follow the TV sign-in steps below.
    • Don’t Allow: Choose Don't Allow if you don't want HBO Max to use your TV provider information from Apple TV Settings. Then, stay on the screen with the 6-character and follow the TV sign-in steps below.
  5. If prompted, enter the email and password for your TV provider account that includes HBO Max. Can't sign in?
    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    Make sure your provider account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, see Step 2: Can't verify your subscription.
  6. First time signing in? You'll see 'Create Your HBO Max Account.'
    • New to HBO Max? Enter your name and email address and then choose Create Account.
    • Already have an HBO Max account? To keep your existing profiles and watch history, enter your existing HBO Max email address and then choose Create Account. Then, on the Account Found screen choose Verify Email Address. If you need help with this, see Account Found: Link account.
  7. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, PlayStation, or Roku
  1. Open HBO Max and then choose the Profile icon (person, upper left).
  2. Choose Sign In. If you're already signed in, see How do I sign out?
  3. Choose Sign in with a Provider. Stay on the screen with the 6-character code while you grab your phone or computer.
  4. Open a browser on your phone or computer and in the address bar, type hbomax.com/tvsignin. You should see an Enter Code page (https://activate.hbomax.com).
  5. Enter the 6-character code that appears on your TV and then choose Next. Code not working?
  6. Choose who you subscribe through (DIRECTV STREAM or U-verse: Choose AT&T, DIRECTV: Choose DIRECTV, DIRECTV Puerto Rico: Choose View All Providers, then select DIRECTV Puerto Rico).
  7. Do one of the following:
    • DIRECTV: Select the User ID for your account that includes HBO Max, enter your password, and choose Sign In. If you don't see your account with HBO Max, choose Add user ID. Can't sign in? See Sign-in help.

Cox device, LG TV, Spectrum WorldBox, Samsung TV, VIZIO Smart TV, Xbox, XClass TV, or Xfinity device

  1. Open HBO Max and choose and then choose the Profile icon (person, upper left).
  2. Choose Sign In. Stay on the screen with the 6-character code while you grab your phone or computer. If you're already signed in, see How do I sign out?
  3. Open a browser on your phone or computer and in the address bar, type https://hbomax.com/tvsignin. You should see an Enter Code page (https://activate.hbomax.com).
  4. Enter the 6-character code that appears on your TV and then choose Next. Code not working?
  5. Choose Sign in with a Provider.

Code not working?

Where do I enter the code?

On your phone or a computer, open a new web browser window. In your browser's address bar type: https://hbomax.com/tvsignin. This takes you to an Enter Code page (https://activate.hbomax.com) where you can enter the 6-character code from your TV.

Code doesn't work or is invalid

Here are some things to try:

  • Make sure you're on the correct page (activate.hbomax.com) when you enter the code from your TV.
  • Try using a different browser: Chrome, FireFox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.
  • Get a new code. To do this, go back and choose Sign In again on your TV.
  • Try using a computer instead of your phone (go to activate.hbomax.com and enter the code from your TV).
  • Clear your browser data. Here's how:
    • iPhone: On your iOS device, go to Settings > Safari, then scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data. To learn more, go to Clear Safari.
    • Android phone: Try clearing your Chrome browsing data on your Android device. To find out how to do this, see Clear cache & cookies.
