Max settings

There are a number of settings available in the Max app and at max.com.

Choose the device you're using:

To access settings:

  • In Max, choose your profile and then App Settings.

Here you'll find the following options:

Playback
Stream over Wi-Fi or Cellular

By default, you can stream over your cellular network using mobile data. To limit your streaming to a Wi-Fi connection:

  • Android: Turn on Stream over Wi-Fi only.
  • iOS: Turn off Stream over Cellular.
Autoplay Next Episode

By default, the next episode in a series automatically plays when you're done watching an episode, so you can easily watch a series. If you don't want to autoplay the next episode, turn off Autoplay Next Episode.

How autoplay works

When the credits begin, Next Episode appears in the lower right with a 15-second countdown. To start watching right away, choose Next Episode or wait 15 seconds and the episode will automatically play.

To watch the end credits, choose the X beside the Next Episode button to dismiss the countdown. If you do this, the next episode won't play until the episode is completely done (including scenes from the next episode).

Download Settings

To allow downloads over your cellular network using mobile data:

  • Android: Turn off Download over Wi-Fi only.
  • iOS: Turn on Download over Cellular.

Video Quality: You can choose from three different video quality levels: Good, Better, or Best (the default setting is Good).

Notifications

Here you'll find the following options:

  • App Notifications: If you don't want pop-up notifications about new Max shows and movies, plus other suggestions and notices, choose App Notifications and then turn Max notifications off in your device settings.
  • Emails from Max and Affiliates: We periodically email you show and movie recommendations, product updates, and special offers. If you don't want to receive these emails, turn off this option.

If you turn off Emails from Max, you'll still get service emails when you make changes to your account (such as changing your password or signing in on a new device).

Manage Parent Code

Choose Manage Parent Code to add or change your Parent Code.

A Parent Code helps keep your child from leaving their Kids profile when Kid-Proof Exit is turned on. Your account has just one Parent Code which applies to all Kids profiles that have Kid-Proof Exit turned on. For more info, go to All about Kids profiles.

Can't change the Parent Code? Try using your computer instead (go to max.com on your computer, choose your profile, then choose Settings > Manage Parent Code).

Info

Choose Info to find the Max app version and device OS.

To find your device model and OS version, choose your device below.

Amazon Fire tablet

From the Home screen of your Amazon device:

  • Device model: Choose Settings > Device Options and find the Device Model. You can also refer to Amazon's Which Fire tablet do I have? article.
  • Software version: Settings > Device Options > System Updates and find the Fire OS Version.
Android phone or tablet

From the Home screen of your Android device:

  • Device model: Choose the Settings app > About phone (or About tablet) and then find the Device name and/or Model number. Steps vary depending on your version of Android.
  • Software version: Choose the Settings app > About phone (or About tablet) > Software info and then find the Android version. Steps vary depending on your version of Android.
Apple iPhone or iPad

From the Home screen of your Apple device:

  • Device model: Choose the Settings app > General > About and find the Model Name. For more info, go to Identify your iPhone model or Identify your iPad model.
  • Software version: Choose the Settings app > General > About and find the Software Version.

To access settings:

  • At max.com, choose your profile and then Settings.

Autoplay Previews

If you don't want previews to autoplay with audio on your computer, turn off Autoplay Previews.

Subtitle Style

Here you can change the way subtitles and captions appear when watching on a web browser (font, color, size, and opacity).

Notifications

We periodically email you show and movie recommendations, product updates, and special offers. If you don't want to receive these emails, turn off Emails from Max and affiliates.

You'll still receive service emails when you make changes to your account (such as changing your password or signing in on a new device).

Manage Parent Code

To add or change your Parent Code, choose Manage Parent Code, then enter a 4-digit Parent Code, and choose Save.

Info

Choose Info to find the web version.

To find your computer's model and software version:

  • PC: To find out which version of Windows you're running, go to Which version of Windows. To find your PC model, go to Settings > System > About.
  • Mac: From the Apple menu (upper left), choose About This Mac. Here you can find the device model and OS version.
  • Chromebook: To find your Chrome OS version, choose the clock icon (lower left), then choose the Settings icon, and then About Chrome OS at the bottom of the menu.

To access settings:

  • In the Max app, choose the Settings icon settings.

Subtitle Style

On some TV devices, you can change the way subtitles and captions appear in the Max app.

If Subtitle Style isn't available, you can adjust the subtitle styling in your device settings. For more info, go to Subtitles, captions, and audio.

Account

Here you'll find your account email address and name. To make changes, go to max.com or use the Max mobile app.

If you need help, go to Change your email or password.

Subscription

Here you'll find info about your Max subscription such as who your subscription is billed through and your current plan. To find out how to change your subscription, go to Manage a Max subscription.

Here you'll find the following information:

Info

Choose Info to find the Max app version and device OS.

To find your device model and OS version without opening Max, choose your device below:

Amazon Fire TV

From the Home screen of your Amazon Fire TV, go to Settings > Device > About and find the Model and Software version. For more info, go to Amazon's Which Fire TV device do I have? article.

Android TV

From the Home screen of your Android TV, go to Settings and under Device, choose About. These steps may vary depending on your Android OS version.

Apple TV
  • Device model: Find your Apple TV on this page: Identify your Apple TV model.
  • Software version: On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > About and find the tvOS version.
LG Smart TV
  • Device model: Press the Settings button on your LG Smart TV remote, then go to All Settings > General > About this TV > TV Information and find the model number (top of screen).
  • Software version: Press the Settings button on your LG Smart TV remote, then go to All Settings > General > About this TV and find the version (top of screen).
Roku

On your Roku, go to Settings > System > About and find your Model and Software version.

Samsung TV
  • Device model: Press the Menu button on your Samsung TV remote and then choose Support > Contact Samsung to find your model number/code.
  • Software version: Press the Menu button on your Samsung TV remote and then choose Support > Software Update. Find the version on the right.
VIZIO Smart TV

Press the Menu button (Gear icon) on your VIZIO TV remote and then choose Admin & Privacy > System Information. Here you can find your TV model and software version.
