How do I get HBO Max?

Things to know

  • Find out if you already have access to HBO Max.
  • HBO GO or HBO Portugal subscribers with an active subscription can sign in to HBO Max on any supported device using their account email and password.

Sign up on your device

Here's how to sign up:

  • Choose from Standard or Basic plans and monthly or yearly billing.
  • A free trial period is not included with either plan.

HBOMax.com
New subscribers
  1. Go to HBOMax.com/subscribe.
  2. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
  3. Fill out the account form and choose Create Account. You'll sign in with this email and password.
    Email already in use?
    An existing account uses this email address. Choose Sign In and follow the returning subscriber steps, or enter a different email address.
  4. Add your payment method and promo code (if you have one). Can't redeem promo code?
  5. Choose Start Subscription.
  6. Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.
Returning subscribers
  1. Go to HBOMax.com/subscribe.
  2. Choose Sign In (upper right).
  3. Enter your email and password and choose Sign In. Can't sign in?
  4. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
  5. Add your payment method and promo code (if you have one). Can't redeem promo code?
  6. Choose Start Subscription.
  7. Choose your profile and you're ready to stream.

Note  If you have trouble streaming after resubscribing, sign out and then sign back in again.

Android phone or tablet
New subscribers
  1. Open HBO Max and tap the Profile icon (person, upper right).
  2. Select Choose a Plan.
  3. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
  4. Choose Select Plan.
  5. Fill out the account form and choose Create Account. You'll sign in using this email and password.
    Email already in use?
    An existing account uses this email address. Choose Sign In and follow the returning subscriber steps, or enter a different email address.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe through Google Play.
Returning subscribers
  1. Open HBO Max and tap the Profile icon (person, upper right).
  2. Choose Sign in to your account.
  3. Enter your email and password and choose Sign In. Can't sign in?
  4. Select Choose a Plan.
  5. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
  6. Choose Select Plan.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe through Google Play.

Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch
New subscribers

Android TV
New subscribers

You can sign up through the Play Store or subscribe and install at the same time.

Sign up
  1. Open the Play Store on your Android TV and search for HBO Max.
  2. Select HBO Max and choose Install.
  3. Open HBO Max and select Choose a Plan. (If you don't see this option, choose a show or movie and then select Choose a Plan.)
  4. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
  5. Choose Select Plan.
  6. You can finish signing up on your TV or your mobile device.
    7. Sign up on your TV
    1. Enter your email and create a password, then choose Next. You'll sign in using this email and password.
    2. Enter your first and last name and choose Accept & Create Account.
      Note  Can't Create Account?

    Sign up on your phone or tablet
    1. Scan the QR code on your TV with your phone or tablet. This will take you to hbomax.com/activate.
    2. Enter the 6-character code that appears above the QR code on your TV, and then choose Next.
    3. Complete the form and choose Create Account. You'll sign in using this email and password.
      Note  Can't Create Account?

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe through Google Play.
Subscribe and install

You can install HBO Max and subscribe at the same time. Here's how:

  1. Open the Play Store on your Android TV. Find and select HBO Max.
  2. If you want to subscribe to the monthly Standard plan, choose Subscribe & install.
  3. If you agree to have your HBO Max account created and linked to your Google account, choose Agree and continue.
  4. Choose your payment method and then select Subscribe.
  5. Choose Continue to HBO Max. Your HBO Max account will be created using your Gmail address and linked to your Google account. You can manage your linked accounts at g.co/linkedaccounts.
  6. Enter a password for your HBO Max account and then choose Create Password.
  7. Choose Continue to HBO Max, then choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.
Returning subscribers
  1. Open HBO Max and sign in with your account email and password. Can't sign in?
  2. Select Choose a Plan. (If you don't see this option, choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.)
  3. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe through Google Play.
Apple TV
New subscribers
  1. Open HBO Max and choose the Profile icon (person, upper left).
  2. Select Choose a Plan. (If you don't see this option, choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.)
  3. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
  4. You can finish signing up on your TV or your mobile device.
    Sign up on your TV
    1. Enter your email and create a password, then choose Next. You'll sign in using this email and password.

KPN TV device

You can add HBO Max to your KPN TV, internet, or mobile package. To learn more, see HBO Max at KPN.

KPN will let you know how you can sign in with a provider to register your HBO Max account. Once you have an HBO Max account, you'll sign in with your HBO Max email and password.

Odido

You can add HBO Max to your Odido mobile package. To learn more, see HBO Max at Odido.

Samsung TV

Note Subscriptions through the Samsung App Store are not available in all countries. If you can't subscribe via Samsung, sign up at HBOMax.com.

New subscribers
On your TV:
  1. Open HBO Max and select Sign Up, and then Subscribe Now. (If you don't see this option, choose a show or movie and then select Subscribe Now.)
  2. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
Now, on your phone or computer:
  1. Open a web browser and go to hbomax.com/activate.
  2. Enter the 6-character code from your TV and choose Next.
  3. Complete the form and choose Create Account. You'll sign in using this email and password.
    Email already in use?
    An existing account uses this email address. Go back to the Home screen and follow the returning subscriber steps, or enter a different email address.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe through Samsung TV.
Returning subscribers
  1. Open HBO Max and sign in with your account email and password. Can't sign in?
  2. Select Choose a Plan. (If you don't see this option, choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.)
  3. Choose a subscription plan and billing period.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe through Samsung TV.

Your subscription will auto-renew on a recurring basis at the then-current subscription rate (plus applicable taxes) until you cancel it.

Once you've signed up, you can sign in and stream HBO Max on all your favorite devices. Your subscription will auto-renew on a recurring basis until you cancel.

Not all payment methods are accepted for recurring subscriptions. Check with your app store (Apple, Google Play, or Samsung Checkout) to find out which payment methods are accepted.

Verify your account email
Check your inbox for a 'Verify Your Email Address' email from HBO Max. Open this email and choose Verify Email. If you can't find this email, see Verify your account email.
