Restore an app store subscription

If you're prompted to subscribe or renew when you have an active HBO Max subscription through an app store (e.g. Google Play or the Apple App Store), try the restore purchase steps below.

Which device are you using?

iPhone , iPad, or Apple TV
  1. Open the HBO Max app on your Apple device where you started your subscription.
  2. Choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.
    If you're already signed in, sign out of HBO Max. Once signed out, choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.
  3. Choose Restore Purchase.
  4. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the Apple App Store. If we find an active HBO Max subscription, we'll restore it. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in and stream on any supported device.

Samsung TV
  1. Open the HBO Max app on the device where you started your subscription.
  2. Choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.
    If you're already signed in, sign out of HBO Max. Once signed out, choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.
  3. Choose Restore Purchase.
  4. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the app store. If we find an active HBO Max subscription, we'll restore it. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in and stream on any supported device.

Android phone, tablet, or Android TV
  1. Open the HBO Max app on your Android phone where you started your subscription.
  2. Choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.
    If you're already signed in, sign out of HBO Max. Once signed out, choose a show or movie and then choose Sign In.
  3. Choose Restore Purchase.
  4. If we find an active HBO Max subscription in the Google Play store, we'll restore it. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in and stream on any supported device.

Can't Verify Your Subscription

If you get this message, find your app store below:

Apple App Store

  1. Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in the Apple App Store. To find out how to do this, go to Apple's See your subscriptions article.
  2. Make sure you're signed in on your Apple device with the same Apple ID that you used to purchase your subscription. For more info, see Apple's Find your Apple ID article.
  3. Check your Apple purchase history. To learn more, see Apple's Purchase history article.

Google Play

  1. Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in Google Play. To do this, go to the Google Play Subscriptions page and find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions. You may need to switch Google accounts—you can do this in the upper-right corner on your computer or using the Menu button on your phone.
  2. Make sure you're signed in on your Android device with the same Google account that you used to purchase your subscription.

Samsung Checkout

  1. Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in Samsung Checkout. To do this, go to samsungcheckout.com and sign in with your Samsung account. Then, from the Purchase History menu choose Subscriptions and find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions.
  2. Make sure you're signed in on your Samsung TV with the same Samsung account that you used to purchase your subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in and stream on any supported device.
