Change an Apple-billed subscription
If you signed up using the HBO Max app on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, then your subscription is billed through Apple.
First, confirm that your subscription is Apple-billed:
- Open HBO Max or sign in at HBOMax.com on your computer. Can't sign in?
- Do one of the following:
- Phone or tablet: Tap your profile (upper right), the Settings icon
, and then tap or scroll to Subscription.
- TV device: Choose the Settings icon
and then choose Account.
- Computer: Choose your profile (upper right), then choose Settings, and find Subscription.
Subscription information is only available with Adult profiles.

How do I cancel my Apple-billed subscription?
Your subscription automatically renews until you cancel. To find out when your subscription will renew, see What's my next billing date?
To cancel, follow Apple's cancellation steps or the steps below.
Which device are you using?
Here's how to cancel your subscription:
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions (if prompted, sign in with your Apple ID).
- Find and tap your HBO Max subscription. Choose Cancel Subscription.
Here's how to cancel your subscription:
- Open Settings on your Apple TV.
- Select Users & Accounts, then select account.
- Select Subscriptions.
- Select HBO Max and then Cancel Subscription.

Can't find an HBO Max subscription?
Try these things:
- Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase your subscription.
- Go to the Apple device where you started your HBO Max subscription and view your subscriptions using the steps above.

Once canceled, you should get an email from Apple confirming your cancellation. You can continue to stream until your subscription expires at the end of your billing cycle.
What's my next billing date?
Your first charge happens when you start your subscription. Thereafter, your subscription will auto-renew on a recurring basis until you cancel it. You pay for your subscription at the beginning of your billing period.
You can find your next billing date in the Apple App Store. Here's how:
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions (if prompted, sign in with your Apple ID).
- Find and tap your HBO Max subscription.
How do I change my payment method?
Apple-billed subscriptions are billed to your Apple ID payment method.
To change your payment method on your iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Payment & Shipping (if prompted, sign in with your Apple ID).
- Tap the payment method you want to change, then edit your information.

What is my current plan?
To find out which subscription plan you have:
- Open HBO Max or sign in to HBOMax.com on your computer. Can't sign in?
- Do one of the following:
- Phone or tablet: Tap your profile (upper right), the Settings icon
, and then tap or scroll to Subscription.
- TV device: Choose the Settings icon
and then choose Account.
- Computer: Choose your profile (upper right), then choose Settings, and find Subscription.
Subscription information is only available with Adult profiles.

How do I change my plan?
If your subscription is billed through Apple, you can switch from the Mobile to Standard plan on your iPad or iPhone. You can also choose a billing period.
Here's how to switch your plan:
- Open HBO Max and then tap your profile (upper right). Can't sign in?
- Tap the Settings icon
and then tap or scroll to Subscription.
- Tap Switch Plans.
- Choose a billing period.
Mobile plan subscribers: If you switch to the Standard plan, you won't be able to switch back to the Mobile plan. - Tap Select Plan and then confirm your new plan.
- Tap Subscribe and enter your Apple ID password if prompted.
Your subscription is updated to your new plan. You'll get an email from Apple confirming your change.
Here's how to switch your billing period on your Apple TV:
- Open HBO Max, then choose the Settings icon

- Choose Account and then Switch Plans.
- Choose a billing period.
- Choose Select Plan and then confirm your new plan.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your plan change through Apple.
Your subscription is updated to your new plan or billing period. You should get an email from Apple confirming your change.
When will this change take effect?
Plan Change
- Switch to Standard: This change happens immediately—you now have access to all Standard plan features. Apple will refund you for the remaining days in your Mobile plan billing period and charge you for the Standard plan (plus applicable taxes). Your next billing date will be adjusted.
Billing Period Change
- Switch to 1 month billing: This change takes effect on your next billing date (at the end of your 3-month or annual billing period).
- Switch to 3 month billing:
Changing from 1 month billing: This change is effective immediately. Apple will refund you for the remaining days in your monthly subscription period and charge you the 3 month price (plus applicable taxes). Your next billing date will be in 3 months.
Changing from 12 month billing: This change takes effect on your next billing date (at the end of your annual billing period). - Switch to 12 month billing: This change is effective immediately. Apple will refund you for the remaining days in your subscription period and charge you the 12 month price (plus applicable taxes). Your next billing date will be in 1 year.
