Update the HBO Max app

To get the latest version of the HBO Max app, open the app store on your device and search for HBO Max. If there's an app update available, choose update or download. For more help, see Update your software on the Troubleshoot TV or Troubleshoot phone or tablet page.

Which device are you using?

To see the HBO Max app version on your phone or tablet:

  • Open HBO Max, tap your profile (upper right), and then the Settings icon Settings icon (upper left). Scroll down to the Info section and find the version.

To see the HBO Max app version without opening HBO Max:

Amazon Fire tablet
On your Amazon Fire tablet, go to Settings > Apps & Games > Manage All Applications and then choose HBO Max.
Android phone or tablet
On your Android phone or tablet, go to Settings, then tap Search settings and type HBO Max. Tap HBO Max from the search results and scroll down to see the version (steps vary depending on your version of Android).
iPhone or iPad
Open the App Store app and search for HBO Max. Once found, tap the HBO Max logo and the version number appears under What's New.

To see the HBO Max version on your computer:

  • Choose your profile (upper right), choose Settings, then scroll down to Info and find the version.

To see the HBO Max app version on your TV:

  • Open HBO Max, choose the Settings icon (cog, lower left), and then scroll right and choose Info.

To see the HBO Max app version without opening HBO Max:

Amazon Fire TV
On your Amazon Fire TV, go to Settings > Manage Installed Applications and then choose HBO Max.
Android TV
On your Android TV, highlight the HBO Max tile, and then press and hold the select button. Then, choose View Details.
Apple TV
Open the App Store app and search for HBO Max. Once found, choose HBO Max and the version number appears under What's New.
LG Smart TV
To make sure you have the latest version, go to the LG Content Store > Apps > My Apps. Then find and select HBO Max. On the HBO Max app page, select Update (if available). Then, choose More under the app details to see the app version.
PlayStation console
On your PlayStation console, highlight the HBO Max app, press the Options button on your controller, and then choose Information.
Roku
Press the Home button on your Roku remote, then use the directional pad to highlight the HBO Max channel. Press the Star button (*) to open the Options menu.
Samsung TV
On your Samsung TV, highlight the HBO Max app, press and hold the Select button on your remote, then choose View Details.
VIZIO Smart TV

The HBO Max app automatically updates when an update is available.

To manually check for updates, press the Menu button (Gear icon) on your remote and then select System > Check for updates.

Xbox console
On your Xbox console, highlight the HBO Max app, press the Menu button on your controller (appears as three horizontal lines), and then choose Manage app.
Cox, Spectrum, XClass TV, and Xfinity Devices

The HBO Max app on Cox, Spectrum (in select areas), XClass TV, and Xfinity devices automatically updates when an update is available.
