Change a Google-billed subscription
If you signed up using the HBO Max app on an Android device, then your subscription is billed through Google Play.
First, confirm that your subscription is Google-billed:
- Open HBO Max or sign in at HBOMax.com on your computer. Can't sign in?
Mobile PlanIf you subscribe to the Mobile plan (not available to new or returning subscribers), open HBO Max on your Android phone or tablet.
- Do one of the following:
- Phone or tablet: Tap your profile (upper right), the Settings icon
, and then tap or scroll to Subscription.
- TV device: Choose the Settings icon
and then choose Account.
- Computer: Choose your profile (upper right), then choose Settings, and find Subscription.
(Subscription information is only available with Adult profiles.)

How do I cancel my Google-billed subscription?
Your subscription automatically renews each billing period until you cancel.
To cancel, follow Google's cancellation steps or the steps below.
Which device are you using?
- On the Android phone or tablet where you subscribed to HBO Max, open the Play Store app.
- At the top right, tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions.
- Tap HBO Max in your list of subscriptions, and then Cancel subscription.
- Go to play.google.com.
- Make sure you're signed in to the Google account with your HBO Max subscription (you may need to switch Google accounts - you can do this in the upper-right corner).
- On the left, choose My subscriptions.
- Find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions.
- Choose Manage and then Cancel subscription.
You should get an email from Google Play confirming your cancellation. You can continue streaming until your subscription expires at the end of your billing period.
Can't find your HBO Max subscription?
Try these things:
- Make sure you're signed in with the same Google account you used to purchase your subscription (you may need to switch Google accounts - you can do this in the upper-right corner).
- Go to the Android device where you started your HBO Max subscription to see which Google account you're signed in with. If you can't find the Google account with your HBO Max subscription, contact Google Play Support for help.
When will my subscription renew?
Your first charge happens when you start your subscription. Thereafter, your subscription will auto-renew until you cancel it. You pay for your subscription at the beginning of your billing period.
To find out your auto-renewal date:
- Open the Play Store app.
- At the top right, tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions.
- Find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions.
- Take note of your next payment date.
- Go to play.google.com.
- Make sure you're signed in to the Google account with your HBO Max subscription (you may need to switch Google accounts - you can do this in the upper-right corner).
- On the left, choose My subscriptions.
- Find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions.
- Take note of when your subscription will renew.

To find out which subscription plan you have, do the following:
- Open HBO Max or sign in to HBOMax.com on your computer. Can't sign in?

How do I change plans?
If your subscription is billed through Google Play, you can switch from the Mobile to Standard plan on your Android phone or tablet. You can also choose your billing period.
Here's how to switch your plan:
- Open HBO Max and then tap your profile (upper right). Can't sign in?
- Tap the Settings icon
and then tap or scroll to Subscription.
- Tap Switch Plans.
- Choose a billing period.
Mobile plan subscribers: If you switch to the Standard plan, you won't be able to switch back to the Mobile plan. - Tap Select Plan and then confirm your new plan.
- Complete your subscription through Google Play.
Your subscription is updated to your new plan. You'll get an email from Google Play confirming your plan change.
Here's how to switch your billing period:
- Open HBO Max on your Android TV.
- Choose your profile (upper-left) and then choose Account.
- Choose Switch Plans.
- Choose a billing period.
- Choose Select Plan.
- Complete your subscription through Google Play.
Your subscription is updated to your new plan or billing period. You should get an email from Google Play confirming your plan change.
When will this change take effect?
Plan Change
- Switch to Standard: This change happens immediately—you now have access to all Standard plan features. Google will give you a credit for the remaining time on your Mobile subscription and apply it to your new plan. Your next billing date will be adjusted once that credit is used.
Billing Period Change
- Switch to 1 month billing: This change takes effect on your next billing date (at the end of your 3 month or annual billing period).
- Switch to 3 month billing: If changing from monthly billing, this change is effective immediately, Google will give you a credit for the remaining time on your 1 month subscription and apply it to your new plan, and your next billing date will be adjusted once that credit is used. If changing from 12 month billing, it takes effect on your next billing date (at the end of your annual billing period).
- Switch to 12 month billing: This change is effective immediately. Google will give you a credit for the remaining time on your 1 month or 3 month subscription and apply it to your new plan. Your next billing date will be adjusted once that credit is used.
