HBO Max settings

There are a number of settings available in the HBO Max app and at HBO.Max.com.

Choose the device you're using:

To access settings:

  • In HBO Max, choose your profile and then App Settings.

Here you'll find the following options:

Playback
Stream over Wi-Fi or Cellular

By default, you can stream over your cellular network using mobile data. To limit your streaming to a Wi-Fi connection:

  • Android: Turn on Stream over Wi-Fi only.
  • iOS: Turn off Stream over Cellular.
Autoplay Next Episode

By default, the next episode in a series automatically plays when you're done watching an episode, so you can easily watch a series. If you don't want to autoplay the next episode, turn off Autoplay Next Episode.

How autoplay works

When the credits begin, Next Episode appears in the lower right with a 15-second countdown. To start watching right away, choose Next Episode or wait 15 seconds and the episode will automatically play.

To watch the end credits, choose the X beside the Next Episode button to dismiss the countdown. If you do this, the next episode won't play until the episode is completely done (including scenes from the next episode).

Download Settings

To allow downloads over your cellular network using mobile data:

  • Turn off Download over Wi-Fi only.

Video Quality: You can choose from three different video quality levels: Good, Better, or Best (the default setting is Good).

For more info, go to Download shows and movies.
