Stop someone from using your account

If you think someone might have access to your HBO Max account without your permission, change your password and sign out of all devices.

Step 1: Change your HBO Max password

Here's how to change your password:

  1. Open the HBO Max app on your phone or tablet, or go to HBOMax.com on your computer.
  2. Sign in to your account (if needed).
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Phone or tablet: Tap the Profile icon (bottom edge on phones, left edge on tablets) and then the Settings icon (upper left).
    • Computer: Choose your Profile icon (upper right).
  4. Choose Account (if Account isn't available, switch to an Adult profile).
  5. Select the Edit icon next to the password field.
  6. We'll send you an email with a verification code within a few minutes (your account email address appears on the Check Your Email Inbox screen). The subject line of the email is 'Here’s Your One-time Code.'
  7. Open the 'Here’s Your One-time Code' email and find the 6-character code.
  8. Go back to HBO Max, enter the 6-character verification code, and choose Continue.
    Note  If the code expires, select Get a New Code and try these steps again.
  9. Change your password and choose Save.

Step 2: Sign out of all devices

Next, sign out of all devices. Here's how:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Phone or tablet: Tap the Profile icon (bottom edge on phones, left edge on tablets) and then the Settings icon (upper left).
    • Computer: Choose your Profile icon (upper right).
  2. Choose Manage Devices.
  3. Choose Sign All Devices Out.

You're signed out and returned to the Home screen. Now sign back in using your new password from Step 1.

It can take up to 4 hours to sign your account out of all devices. If someone in your household is streaming a show or movie, they won't be signed out of HBO Max until the end of their show or movie.
