Sign in with a provider

There are two ways to sign in depending on how you get HBO Max.

Ways to sign in

  1. Sign in through a TV, internet, or mobile provider (see below)
  2. Sign in with your account email and password

If you get HBO Max with your TV package, internet service, or wireless plan, use these steps.

Which device are you using?

Here's how to sign in on your phone or tablet:

  1. Open the HBO Max app and then tap the Profile icon (bottom edge on phones, left edge on tablets).
  2. Tap Sign in to your account.
    If you're already signed in, tap the Settings icon (upper-left), then scroll down and choose Sign Out.
  3. Tap Sign in with a Provider.
    iPhone or iPad
    If you get HBO Max with your TV package, tap Allow when asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription. If you're signed in with your TV provider in iOS Settings, HBO Max will use your TV provider info to sign you in. Otherwise, choose your TV provider. If you don't see your provider, scroll down and choose Other Providers at the bottom of the list.
  4. Tap who you subscribe through (your provider). If you're using a tablet, tap View All Providers and then choose your provider. I don't see my provider
  5. Enter the username and password for your provider account that includes HBO Max. Can't sign in?
    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    Make sure your provider account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, see Step 2: Can't verify your subscription.
  6. First time signing in? You'll see 'Create Your HBO Max Account.'
    • New to HBO Max? Enter your name and email address and then choose Create Account.
    • Already have an HBO Max account? Enter your name and your existing HBO Max email address, and then choose Create Account. Next, follow the Verify Email Address steps (in the Account Found? section below) to link your existing account to your HBO Max subscription through your provider.
  7. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Account Found?

If we find an existing HBO Max or HBO NOW account with the same email address, you'll have two options:

Verify Email Address

Choose this option to link the account that we found to your HBO Max subscription through your TV, internet, or mobile provider. After choosing this option, check your inbox for an email from HBO Max with a one-time code (the subject line is 'Here's Your One-Time Code'). Then, enter the code from the email and choose Link Accounts. If you don't get an email from HBO Max, see Didn't get one-time code.

If you link to an HBO Max account you'll keep your existing profiles (which include settings such as My List, parental controls, and Continue Watching). Your profile settings are not saved if you link to an HBO NOW account.

Create New Account

Choose this option to create a new HBO Max account with a different email (don't link to the account we found). After you choose this option, enter a different email address for your account.

Not sure which to choose?

Once you link or create an account, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Here's how to sign in on your computer:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com on your computer and choose Sign In (upper-right).
    If you're already signed in, choose your profile (upper-right) and then choose Sign Out.
  2. Choose Sign in with a Provider.
  3. Choose who you subscribe through (your provider). If you don't see your provider, choose View All Providers and then select your provider. I don't see my provider
  4. Enter the username and password for your provider account that includes HBO Max. Can't sign in?
    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    Make sure your provider account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, see Step 2: Can't verify your subscription.
  5. First time signing in? You'll see 'Create Your HBO Max Account.'
    • New to HBO Max? Enter your name and email address and then choose Create Account.
    • Already have an HBO Max account? Enter your name and your existing HBO Max email address, and then choose Create Account. Next, follow the Verify Email Address steps (in the Account Found? section below) to link your existing account to your HBO Max subscription through your TV, internet, or mobile provider.
  6. Choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Account Found?

If we find an existing HBO Max or HBO NOW account with the same email address, you'll have two options:

Verify Email Address

Choose this option to link the account that we found to your HBO Max subscription through your TV, internet, or mobile provider. After choosing this option, check your inbox for an email from HBO Max with a one-time code (the subject line is 'Here's Your One-Time Code'). Then, enter the code from the email and choose Link Accounts. If you don't get an email from HBO Max, see Didn't get one-time code.

If you link to an HBO Max account you'll keep your existing profiles (which include settings such as My List, parental controls, and Continue Watching). Your profile settings are not saved if you link to an HBO NOW account.

Create New Account

Choose this option to create a new HBO Max account with a different email (don't link to the account we found). After you choose this option, enter a different email address for your account.

Here's how to sign in on your TV:

Apple TV

Here's how to sign in on your Apple TV:

  1. Open HBO Max on your TV and choose Sign in (or choose a show or movie, then choose Sign in and Sign in again).
  2. Choose Sign in with a Provider.
  3. Choose one of the following:
    • Allow: Choose Allow if you want HBO Max to use your TV provider information from Apple TV Settings. If you haven't signed in to your TV provider account in Apple TV Settings, choose your TV provider (or More Providers at the bottom of the screen). If you see a screen with a 6-character code, follow the Other TV device steps below.
    • Don't Allow: Choose Don't Allow if you don't want HBO Max to use your TV provider information from Apple TV Settings. Then, stay on the screen with the 6-character and follow the TV sign-in steps below.
  4. If prompted, enter the email and password for your TV provider account that includes HBO Max. Can't sign in?
    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    Make sure your provider account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, see Step 2: Can't verify your subscription.
  5. First time signing in? You'll see 'Create Your HBO Max Account.'
    • New to HBO Max? Enter your name and email address and then choose Create Account.
    • Already have an HBO Max account? Enter your name and your existing HBO Max email address, and then choose Create Account. PlayStation or Roku

Here's how to sign in on your PlayStation or Roku:

  1. Open HBO Max on your Roku and choose Sign In (or choose a show or movie, then choose Sign In and Sign In again).
  2. Choose Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider. Stay on the screen with the 6-character code while you grab your phone or computer.
  3. On your phone or computer, type https://hbomax.com/tvsignin in your browser's address bar (this redirects you to https://activate.hbomax.com). You should see an Enter Code page (https://activate.hbomax.com).
  4. On the Enter Code screen, enter the 6-character code that appears on your TV and then choose Next. Code not working?
  5. Choose who you subscribe through (your provider). If you're using a computer or tablet, choose View All Providers and then select your provider. I don't see my provider
  6. Enter the username and password for your provider account that includes HBO Max. Can't sign in?

Other TV device

Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, LG Smart TV, Spectrum WorldBox, Cox device, Samsung TV, VIZIO Smart TV, Xbox, XClass TV, or Xfinity device

Here's how to sign in on your TV:

  1. Open HBO Max on your TV and choose Sign In (or choose a show or movie, then choose Sign In).
  2. Choose Sign In. Stay on the screen with the 6-character code while you grab your phone or computer.
  3. On your phone or computer, type https://hbomax.com/tvsignin in your browser's address bar (this redirects you to https://activate.hbomax.com). You should see an Enter Code page (https://activate.hbomax.com).
  4. On the Enter Code screen, enter the 6-character code that appears on your TV and then choose Next. Code not working?

Code not working?

Where do I enter the code?

On your phone or computer, go to hbomax.com/tvsignin (or type https://hbomax.com/tvsignin in your browser's address bar). You should see an Enter Code page where you can enter the 6-character code from your TV (https://activate.hbomax.com).

Code doesn't work or is invalid

Try the following:

  1. Make sure you're on the correct page (https://activate.hbomax.com) in Step 3 above. Choose this link: activate.hbomax.com and then enter the code from your TV.
  2. Try using a different supported browser: Chrome, FireFox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.
  3. Get a new code. To do this, go back and choose Sign In again on your TV.
  4. Try using a computer (instead of your phone). On your computer, go to activate.hbomax.com and then enter the code from your TV.
  5. Clear your browser data.
    • iPhone: On your iOS device, go to Settings > Safari, then scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data. To learn more, go to Clear Safari.
    • Android phone: Try clearing your Chrome browsing data on your Android device. To find out how to do this, see Clear cache & cookies.
HBO Subscribers
Your HBO GO profile settings, such as My List and Continue Watching, will not be available in HBO Max.
