Relink your subscription to your account

If temporary access given to you by HBO Max Customer Support has expired, you'll need to relink your subscription to your HBO Max account (see the steps below).

How did you sign up?

Restore your app store purchase

If you signed up through an app store (the HBO Max or HBO NOW app), try restoring your purchase. Here's how:

  1. Open the HBO Max app on the device where you originally subscribed (phone, tablet, or TV) and sign in. If you can't sign in, see Restore purchase.
  2. Try to play a show or movie.
  3. If you're asked to subscribe or renew,
    • Android phone or tablet: At the bottom of the screen, choose Link your subscription. Then choose Google Play on the next screen.
    • Other device: Choose the Restore Purchase option.
  4. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the app store. If we find an active subscription we'll sign you in and you're ready to stream. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.

You can link your HBO Max account to your subscription through a TV or mobile provider. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to HBO Max:
    • Computer: Go to and choose Sign In in the upper-right corner.
    • Phone or tablet: Open the HBO Max app, tap the Profile icon, and then tap the Sign In link.
  2. Enter your HBO Max or HBO NOW email and password. Can't sign in?
  3. Try to play a show or movie.
  4. If you're asked to sign up or renew, choose Link your subscription. If you don't see this option, repeat steps 1-3 on your computer at
  5. Choose your provider from the list (who your subscription is billed through).
  6. Sign in to your provider account.

We'll look for your subscription and link it to your HBO Max account.

Once your account and subscription are linked, you can sign in (using your HBO Max email and password), and stream on any supported device.

Can't Verify Your Subscription

If Restore Purchase didn't find an HBO Max subscription, try the following:

  1. Make sure you have an active HBO Max subscription in Google Play or the Apple App Store. To find out how to do this, see Manage your Apple subscription or Manage your Google Play subscription.
  2. Make sure you're signed in on your Apple or Android device with the account that has your HBO Max subscription. Here's how:
    • Apple TV: To see which Apple ID you're signed in with, go to Settings > Accounts> iTunes and App Store. For more info, see Apple's Find your Apple ID page.
    • Android TV: To see which Google account you're signed in, go to the Home screen and choose Settings on your Android TV.
    • Android phone or tablet: To see which Google account you're signed in with, open Settings on your Android device, then choose About phone and find your Google Account.
    • iPhone or iPad: To see which Apple ID you're signed in with, go to Settings and find your Apple ID.
