Restore an app store subscription

If you're prompted to subscribe or renew when you have an active HBO Max subscription through an app store (e.g. Google Play or the Apple App Store), try the restore purchase steps below.

Which device are you using?

iPhone , iPad, or Apple TV
  1. Open the HBO Max app on your Apple device.
  2. Try to play a show or movie and then choose Restore Purchase: iTunes. If prompted, enter Apple ID password.
  3. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the Apple App Store.
  4. If we find an active subscription we'll sign you in and you're ready to stream. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in with your HBO Max email and password and stream on any supported device.

Android TV or Samsung TV
  1. Open the HBO Max app on your TV.
  2. Try to play a show or movie and then choose the Restore Purchase option.
  3. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the app store.
  4. If we find an active subscription we'll sign you in and you're ready to stream. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in with your HBO Max email and password and stream on any supported device.

Android phone or tablet
  1. Open the HBO Max app on your Android phone or tablet.
  2. Try to play a show or movie.
  3. Tap the Sign In link.
  4. Tap Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
  5. Choose Google Play.
  6. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the Google Play Store.
  7. If we find an active subscription we'll sign you in and you're ready to stream. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.
Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in with your HBO Max email and password and stream on any supported device.

Can't Verify Your Subscription

If Restore Purchase didn't find your HBO Max subscription, find your app store below:

Apple App Store

  • Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in the Apple App Store. To find out how to do this, see Apple's See your subscriptions article.
  • Make sure you're signed in on your Apple device with the same Apple ID that has your subscription. For more info, go to Apple's Find your Apple ID article.
  • Check your Apple purchase history. To find out how, go to Apple's Purchase history article.

Google Play

  • Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in Google Play. To do this, go to play.google.com/store/account and find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions.
  • Make sure you're signed in with the same Google account that has your subscription (you may need to switch Google accounts - you can do this in the upper-right corner on your computer or using the Menu button on your phone).

Samsung Checkout

  • Make sure you have an active HBO Max subscription. To do this, go to payon.tv and sign in with your Samsung account, then choose Subscriptions.
  • Make sure you're signed in on your Samsung TV with the same Samsung Account that has your subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you sign in with your HBO Max email and password and stream on any supported device.
