Restore an app store subscription

If you're prompted to subscribe or renew when you have an active HBO Max subscription through an app store (e.g. Google Play or the Apple App Store), try the restore purchase steps below.

Which device are you using?

iPhone , iPad, or Apple TV
  1. Open the HBO Max app on your Apple device where you started your subscription.
  2. Try to play a show or movie and then choose Restore Purchase: iTunes. If prompted, enter your Apple ID password.
  3. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the Apple App Store. If we find an active HBO Max subscription, we'll restore it. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in and stream on any supported device.

Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, or Samsung TV
  1. Open the HBO Max app on the device where you started your subscription.
  2. Try to play a show or movie and then choose the Restore Purchase option.
  3. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the app store. If we find an active HBO Max subscription, we'll restore it. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in and stream on any supported device.

Android phone or tablet, or Amazon Fire tablet
  1. Open the HBO Max app on your phone or tablet where you started your subscription.
  2. Try to play a show or movie.
  3. Tap Already subscribed? Link your subscription.
  4. Tap Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Android phone or tablet: Choose Google Play. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the Google Play Store.
    • Amazon Fire tablet: Choose Amazon Appstore. We'll look for an HBO Max subscription in the Amazon Appstore.
  6. If we find an active HBO Max subscription, we'll restore it. If we don't find a subscription, see Can't Verify Your Subscription.
Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in and stream on any supported device.

Can't Verify Your Subscription

If you get this message, find your app store below:

Amazon Appstore

  1. Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in the Amazon Appstore. To do this, go to your Appstore Subscriptions and sign in to your Amazon account. Under Your Subscriptions, make sure you have an active HBO Max subscription.
  2. Make sure you're signed in on your Amazon Fire device with the same Amazon account that you used to purchase your subscription.

Apple App Store

  • Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in the Apple App Store. To find out how to do this, go to Apple's See your subscriptions article.
  • Make sure you're signed in on your Apple device with the same Apple ID that you used to purchase your subscription. For more info, see Apple's Find your Apple ID article.
  • Check your Apple purchase history. To learn more, see Apple's Purchase history article.

Google Play

  • Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in Google Play. To do this, go to play.google.com/store/account and find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions.
  • Make sure you're signed in on your Android device with the same Google account that you used to purchase your subscription (you may need to switch Google accounts—you can do this in the upper-right corner on your computer or using the Menu button on your phone).

Samsung Checkout

  • Make sure you have an HBO Max subscription in Samsung Checkout. To do this, go to payon.tv and sign in with your Samsung account. Then, from the Purchase History menu choose Subscriptions and find HBO Max in your list of subscriptions.
  • Make sure you're signed in on your Samsung TV with the same Samsung account that you used to purchase your subscription.

Once your subscription is restored and linked to your account, you can sign in and stream on any supported device.
