Can't sign in with email and password

There are two ways to sign in depending on how you get HBO Max.

How are you trying to sign in?

  1. Through a TV, internet, mobile provider (see Can't sign in through provider)
  2. With an account email and password (see below)

If you get HBO Max with your TV package or wireless plan, please see Can't sign in through provider.

Which device are you using?

If you can't sign in on your phone or tablet, try these steps:

Step 1: Try another device

Try signing in to HBO Max on another supported device, e.g. a computer at HBOMax.com or your TV.

If you can sign in on another device, see Troubleshoot phone or tablet. If you still can't sign in, try the next step.

Step 2: Reset your password

Try resetting your password. If this doesn't work, see Can't reset password. If you're signing in through a TV or mobile provider, see Can't sign in through provider.

Step 3: Restore your subscription

If you started your subscription using the HBO Max app, try restoring your app store subscription.

If you can't sign in at HBOMax.com, try these steps:

Step 1: Update your browser

  • Make sure you're using a supported browser.
  • Check to see if there's an update available for your browser. To find out how to do this, search the Internet for update + the name of your browser (i.e. update Chrome).

Step 2: Try another device

Try signing in on your phone, tablet, or TV. If you can't sign in on any device, try resetting your password. If this doesn't work, see Can't reset password. If you can sign in on another device, try the next step.

Step 3: Reload HBOMax.com

Go to HBOMax.com and do a hard refresh for the page. To find out how to do this search the Internet for 'hard refresh' + the name of your browser (e.g. 'hard refresh Firefox'). If you're using the Chrome browser on a PC, hold down the Ctrl key and click the Reload button (for Chrome on a Mac, hold down the Shift key and click the Reload button). Once the page is reloaded try signing in again.

Step 4: Try another browser

Try using another supported browser. This will help determine if the issue is limited to a particular browser. Make sure cookies are enabled in your browser.

Step 5: Clear cookies and cache

  1. Clear your browser's cookies for HBOMax.com. To find out how to do this, search your browser's help for 'cookies.'
  2. Close and reopen your browser.
  3. Go to HBOMax.com and try signing in again.

If you still can't sign in, try clearing your browser's cache. To find out how to do this, search your browser's help for 'clear cache.'

TV devices: Android TV, Apple TV, PlayStation 4, Samsung TV, Xbox One

If you can't sign in on your TV, try these steps:

Step 1: Try another device

Try signing in to HBO Max on your phone, tablet, or computer (at HBOMax.com).

Step 2: Reset your password

If you can't sign in on any device, try resetting your password. If this doesn't work, see Can't reset password. If you're signing in through a TV or mobile provider, see Can't sign in through provider.
