Sign in through AT&T TV, DIRECTV, U-Verse, or WatchTV

HBO Max is available through the following AT&T video services: 

  • AT&T TV
  • AT&T TV Now
  • DIRECTV
  • U-Verse TV
  • WatchTV

Use the steps below to sign in to HBO Max through one of these video services.

AT&T Wireless or Internet Plan?
If HBO Max is included with your AT&T wireless or internet plan, see Sign in through AT&T wireless or internet account.

Which device are you using?

Choose your TV service:

AT&T TV, AT&T TV Now, U-Verse, or WatchTV
Here’s how you sign in on your phone or tablet:
  1. Open the HBO Max app and then tap the Profile icon (or try to play a show or movie).
  2. Tap the Sign in to your account link.
    If you’re already signed in, tap the Settings icon (upper-left), then scroll down and choose Sign Out.
  3. Tap Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
    iPhone or iPad
    • AT&T TV, AT&T TV Now, or U-verse: When asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription, tap Allow. If you're signed in with your TV provider in iOS Settings, HBO Max will sign you in using this info. Otherwise, choose AT&T TV or U-verse from the list of TV providers and sign in to your account.
    • WatchTV: If prompted, tap Don’t Allow when asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription.
  4. Choose AT&T as your provider.
  5. Enter your AT&T user ID and password (for the AT&T account that includes access to HBO Max), and then choose Sign In. If you can't sign in to your AT&T account, tap Forgot user ID? or Forgot password?

    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    • Make sure your AT&T account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to MyAT&T or the myAT&T app, then go to your account page, and find the HBO Max tile.
    • iOS device: Try removing your TV provider in iOS Settings. To do this, go to Settings > TV Provider and then tap Remove TV Provider or Sign Out. Then, open HBO Max and try signing in again.
    • If you still can't sign in, see att.com/hbomaxhelp.
  6. First time signing in? Enter or confirm your name and email and then choose Create Account.
  7. Choose who’s watching or see the Account found section below.
DIRECTV
Here’s how you sign in on your phone or tablet:
  1. Open the HBO Max app and then tap the Profile icon (or try to play a show or movie).
  2. Tap the Sign in to your account link.
    If you’re already signed in, tap the Settings icon (upper-left), then scroll down and choose Sign Out.
  3. Tap Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
    iPhone or iPad
    If prompted, tap Allow when asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription. If you're signed in through DIRECTV in iOS Settings, HBO Max will use your DIRECTV info to sign you in. Otherwise, choose DIRECTV and sign in to your account.
  4. Choose DIRECTV from the list of providers. Next, you'll see the AT&T sign-in page (DIRECTV is part of the AT&T family).
    DIRECTV Puerto Rico Subscribers: Scroll down and choose DIRECTV Puerto Rico. Then, enter your account email and password and tap Login.
  5. Enter the user ID and password for your account that includes HBO Max, and then tap Sign In. Can't sign in? See Get help with your user ID or password or try signing in on your computer at directv.com.

    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    • Make sure your account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to directv.com and make sure your TV package includes HBO.
    • iOS device: Try removing your TV provider in iOS Settings. To do this, go to Settings > TV Provider and then tap Remove TV Provider or Sign Out. Then, open HBO Max and try signing in again.
  6. First time signing in? Confirm your name and email and then choose Create Account.
  7. Choose who’s watching or see the Account found section below.

Account Found?

If we find an existing account (an HBO NOW or HBO Max account) with the same email as what you entered (in Step 6), you'll have two options:

Verify Email Address

Choose this option to link the account that we found to your HBO Max subscription through your TV, internet, or mobile provider. After choosing this option, check your inbox for an email from HBO Max with a one-time code (the subject line is 'Here's Your One-Time Code'). Then, enter the code from the email and choose Link Accounts.

If you link to an HBO Max account you'll keep your existing profiles (which include settings such as My List, parental controls, and Continue Watching). Your profile settings are not saved if you link to an HBO NOW account.

Important
If you don't get an email from HBO Max, see Didn't get one-time code.
Create New Account

Choose this option to create a new HBO Max account with a different email (don't link to the account we found). After you choose this option, enter a different email address for your account.

Once you link or create an account, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Choose your TV service:

AT&T TV, AT&T TV Now, U-Verse, or WatchTV

Here's how to sign in on your computer:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com on your computer and choose Sign In (upper-right). If you're already signed in, choose your profile icon and then choose Sign Out.
  2. Choose Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
  3. Choose AT&T from the list of providers.
  4. Select the User ID for your AT&T account that includes HBO Max, enter your password, and choose Sign In. If you don't see your account with HBO Max, choose Add user ID. If you can't sign in to your AT&T account, tap Forgot user ID? or Forgot password?

    • Make sure your AT&T account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to MyAT&T or the myAT&T app, then go to your account page, and find the HBO Max tile.

DIRECTV

Here’s how to sign in on your computer:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com on your computer and choose Sign In (upper-right). If you're already signed in, choose your profile icon and then choose Sign Out.
  2. Choose Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
  3. Choose DIRECTV from the list of providers. Next, you'll see the AT&T sign-in page (DIRECTV is part of the AT&T family).
    DIRECTV Puerto Rico Subscribers: Choose View All Providers, then select DIRECTV Puerto Rico, and sign in with your account email and password.
  4. Select the User ID for your account that includes HBO Max, enter your password, and choose Sign In. If you don't see your account with HBO Max, choose Add user ID. Can't sign in? See Get help with your user ID or password or try signing in on your computer at directv.com.
    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    Make sure your account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to directv.com and make sure your TV package includes HBO.
  5. First time signing in? Enter or confirm your name and email and then choose Create Account.
  6. Once your TV updates (this may take up to 60 seconds), choose who's watching or see the Account found section below.

Account Found?

If we find an existing account (an HBO NOW or HBO Max account) with the same email as what you entered (in Step 5), you'll have two options:

TV devices: Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, PlayStation, Roku, Samsung TV, Xbox, Xfinity TV Box

To sign in on your TV, you'll need to have your phone or a computer handy.

Here's how to sign in:

  1. Open HBO Max on your TV and choose Sign In (or try a show or movie).
    If you're already signed in, choose your profile icon (circle with a letter in the upper-left), then scroll right and choose Sign Out.
  2. You should see a 6 character code. Stay on this screen while you grab your phone or computer.
  3. Open a web browser on your phone or a computer and type hbomax.com/tvsignin in the address bar (this redirects to https://activate.hbomax.com). This should take you to an Enter Code screen.
  4. Enter the code that appears on your TV, then choose Next. Code not working?
  5. Choose Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
    Apple TV
    • AT&T TV, AT&T TV Now, or U-verse: When asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription, tap Allow. If you're signed in with your TV provider in Apple TV Settings, HBO Max will sign you in using this info. Otherwise, choose AT&T TV or U-verse from the list of TV providers and sign in to your account.
    • WatchTV: If prompted, tap Don’t Allow when asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription.
  6. Choose AT&T as your provider.
  7. Enter your AT&T user ID and password (for the AT&T account that includes access to HBO Max), and then choose Sign In. If you can't sign in to your AT&T account, tap Forgot user ID? or Forgot password?

Code not working?

Where do I enter the code?

If the Enter Code page doesn't appear, try the following:

  • Choose this link: https://activate.HBOMax.com, or type https://activate.hbomax.com in the address bar of your browser. This should take you to an Enter Code screen.

Code doesn't work or is invalid

Try the following:

  1. Make sure you're on the correct page in Step 3 above (https://activate.hbomax.com). Choose this link: https://activate.HBOMax.com and then enter the code from your TV.
  2. Try using a different supported browser: Chrome, FireFox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.
  3. Get a new code. To do this, go back and choose Sign In again on your TV.

If you're signing in using your phone, try the following:

Step 1: Switch to a computer

  • In Step 3 above, try using your computer (instead of your phone). To do this, open this link: https://activate.HBOMax.com on your computer and then enter the code from your TV.

Step 2: Clear your browser data

Clear your browser data and then try signing in again using your phone. Here's how:

  • iPhone: On your iOS device, go to Settings > Safari, then scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data. To learn more, go to Clear Safari.
  • Android phone: Try clearing your Chrome browsing data on your Android device. To find out how to do this, see Clear cache & cookies.
