Sign in through a TV or mobile provider

There are two ways to sign in depending on how you get HBO Max.

Ways to sign in

  1. Sign in through a TV or mobile provider (see below)
  2. Sign in with your account email and password

If you get HBO Max with your TV package, internet service, or wireless plan, use these steps:

Here's how to sign in on your phone or tablet:

  1. Open the HBO Max app and then tap the Profile icon (or try to play a show or movie).
  2. Tap the Sign In link. (If you're already signed in, tap the Settings icon, then scroll down and choose Sign Out.)
  3. Tap Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
    iPhone or iPad
    If you get HBO Max with your TV package, tap Allow when asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription. If you're signed in with your TV provider in iOS Settings, HBO Max will use your TV provider info to sign you in. Otherwise, choose your TV provider. If you don't see your provider, scroll down and choose Other Providers at the bottom of the list.
  4. Tap your provider from the list. I don't see my provider
  5. Enter the username and password for your provider account that includes HBO Max. If you have trouble signing in, see Can't sign in through a provider.
    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    Make sure your provider account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to your provider account (on your provider's website) and see if HBO Max is included.
  6. First time signing in? Enter or confirm your name and email and then choose Create Account.
  7. Choose who's watching or see the next section.

Account Found?

If we find an existing account (an HBO NOW or HBO Max account) with the same email as what you entered (in Step 6), you'll have two options:

Verify Email Address

Link the account that we found to your provider account. If you link to an HBO Max account you'll keep your existing profiles (which include settings such as My List, parental controls, and Continue Watching). Your profile settings are not saved if you link to an HBO NOW account.

Choose this option and then check your inbox for an email from HBO Max with a one-time code (the subject line is 'Here's Your One-Time Code'). Then, enter the code from the email and choose Link Accounts.

Create New Account

Create a new account using a different email (don't link to the account we found). You'll have a new profile which won't have your previous account settings - such as My List, parental controls, and Continue Watching.

Choose this option, then enter a different email address for your account.

Once you link or create an account, choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Here's how to sign in on your computer:

  1. Go to HBOMax.com and in the upper-right corner, choose Sign In. (If you're already signed in, choose the profile icon in the upper-right, and then choose Sign Out.)
  2. Choose Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
  3. Tap your provider from the list. I don't see my provider
  4. Enter the username and password for your provider account that includes HBO Max. If you have trouble signing in, see Can't sign in through provider.
    Can't Verify Your Subscription
    Make sure your provider account includes access to HBO Max. To do this, sign in to your provider account (on your provider's website) and see if HBO Max is included.
  5. First time signing in? Enter or confirm your name and email and then choose Create Account.

TV devices: Android TV, Apple TV, PlayStation 4, Samsung TV, Xbox One

To sign in on your TV, you'll need to have your phone or a computer handy.

Here's how to sign in:

  1. Open HBO Max on your TV and choose Sign In (or try to play a show or movie). (If you're already signed in, choose the profile icon in the upper-left, then scroll to the far right and choose Sign Out.)
  2. You should see a 6-digit code. Stay on this screen while you grab your phone or a computer.
  3. Open a web browser on your phone or a computer and type hbomax.com/tvsignin in the address bar (this redirects to https://activate.hbomax.com). This should take you to an Enter Code screen.
  4. Enter the code that appears on your TV, and then choose Next. Code not working?
  5. Choose Sign in Through TV or Mobile Provider.
    Apple TV
    If you get HBO Max with your TV package, choose Allow when asked if HBO Max can use your TV provider subscription. If you're signed in with your TV provider in Apple TV Settings, HBO Max will use your TV provider information to sign you in. Otherwise, choose your TV provider (or choose Other Providers at the bottom of the list).
  6. Choose your provider from the list. I don't see my provider
  7. Enter the username and password for your provider account that includes HBO Max. If you have trouble signing in, see Can't sign in through provider?

  8. First time signing in? Enter or confirm your name and email and then choose Create Account. Account found? See the next section.
  9. Once your TV updates (this may take 60 seconds), choose who's watching and you're ready to stream.

Code not working?

Where do I enter the code?

If the Enter Code page doesn't appear, try the following:

  • Choose this link: https://activate.HBOMax.com, or type https://activate.hbomax.com in the address bar of your browser. This should take you to an Enter Code screen.

Code doesn't work or is invalid

Try the following:

  1. Make sure you're on the correct page (in Step 3 above). Choose this link: https://activate.HBOMax.com, or type https://activate.hbomax.com in the address bar of your browser.
  2. Try using a different supported browser: Chrome, FireFox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.
  3. If you used your phone in Step 3 above, try using your computer instead (or vice versa).
  4. Get a new code. To do this, go back and choose Sign In again.
HBO Subscribers
Your HBO GO profile settings, such as My List and Continue Watching, will not be available in HBO Max.
